Shane, Thanks for the tip on one layer of 300 ud carbon for the hand launch boom.
I had already found the "Shaper Dave" thread and read it in full several times. I have assembled everything except the ud carbon.
It didn't occur to me to only use a single heavy layer instead of two light layers.
It seems there is more than one way to skin a cat.

If that's a spar cap, it's at least a 600g spar!!

I'm counting on a weight of 800g+ for the finished spar . The plan is to make the web from resin, cotton flocks and maybe chopped glass. The finished spar will be a bit like a full-span, solid F3B wing joiner. Jarred - there'll be another identical spar cap that goes on top of this one, with a full-width web joining the top and bottom caps.

Wooooo Sean, should be easy to make the wing stiff with that in it. Shear web will be almost nothing ,great work. I was at CG composites last week and was shown a hydrofoil wing baked at 110 ,maaaaaaate it was as hard as glass so don't hold back on the temp.
Keep going ,Shane.

Wow, sounds like it'll be worth hot boxing then! I need to make some mods to my hotbox - the plastic bulb holders aren't up to temperatures much over 60C (the bulbs get really hot and start softening the plastic). Pete's been kind enough to source some ceramic bulb holders so they should do the job for the higher temps. My box would never go over 100 though!

I go to 45/50 extra heat is safely available by using a fan heater from kmart driven by you controller cheers jeff

Yeah, a fan heater might be the go. Only prob is the HK sourced thermostat I ordered a few weeks back still hasn't arrived. Did you order one of those Jeff? If so has yours arrived yet?

Sean 110 are extreme limits ,80 is optimum, he said this is what the army UV's are baked to. Got my bar heater up to 70 in cardboard box ,i was a bit worried about fire because the thermostat hadn't turned off . I don't know why you would want a bar heater so hot in normal use. Is the thermostat lost in the shed already ,Jeff.??
