Just mucking around here - some pics of stuff
This is a mold that Alan (Livefibre - hasn't been on the forum for ages) made up from his Minij (which he hasn't built yet). I have borrowed it to have a go at making a fuse ... although as you can see he gave me a fuse that he's already made too. I'm going to mount my new vac bagged wing on a Minij fuse.
I got a kitchen cabinetmaker friend to make up this new benchtop. It's just the cheap16mm whiteboard sheet, but he's put some laminate on it that was lying around. It about $50 but considering how much use we get out of our benches I reckon it's worth it. I wanted to get it very flat and level, so I sanded down the irregular old boards on the bench with a big sander, and unfortunately covered everything in the shed with a thick layer of brown dust. Then I put blobs of liquid nails on the low spots, then a sheet of plastic to stop the new top sticking, and screwed it down. Very flat and level now.
The Ditza wing is in the vac bag, while a wing break repair sets.
I ran out of the 2.4mm fibreglass rod which I use a lot, so I ordered more stuff from Kite Magic. In this order I got 12 or 16m of 1.3mm, 2.4 and 3.5mm rod. Seems a lot, but if you put 2 spars top and 2 spars bottom on a 1.5m wing, you can use 6m. It's also great stuff for making up control pushrods. I'm looking forward to using the 1.3mm for that in the smaller planes. I'm not a big fan of carbon in applications where it can snap. Fibreglass rod is so cheap ($1.50-$2 per metre) and tough. This is the rolled up package
and this is a closeup of the ends:
