hey pij.... i have just got my duck around 4 days ago and i have just finished it n building i and i am now in the process of covering it.....i have gone with a new teckneque of the goldern rod esing but it is a different set up to the origonal goldern rod.....the origonal design was that you had a outer tube and then had wire on the inside running through it right!!!!!!!! Well the new one is all plastic and it has no slop wat so ever ;DYou have a plstic outer tube and a plastic innner tube running in the inside of it.....it is really kool and looks allright....here are some pics of where i am up to now....i am taking my time with thi build and i am going full out in the graphics desings that i am cutting by hand for it....i will take some pics of that aswell and show you were im up to with that ;D oh the the CG is like 203mm from the nose and i havent covered it yet but i think it should be ok...wat do u think

Sounds like you're on target, Chris. I'd like to see the pics of the Golden Rods, thanks.

hey lookin good pij, be interesting to see if your @rse crack prevention works too I reckon it should. That's 3 layers of plasterboard tape, which is a fibreglass grid, with Goop squeegee'd through. Unrippable, I'd say, and almost stiff too.

Chris I did golden rods like that in a Scorpion (from Glenn at Off the Edge). He warned me they would get very sloppy and I ignored the advice. But he was right and the slop drove me nuts. That's why I'm nuts these days. I used to be normal. Anyway I digress, but in the end I ripped them out and put the servos in the normal way! At least the Duck isn't super sensitive to elevator but the Golden rods are sloppy, and curved they're much worse. I hate slop.

Very creative with the graphics, Chris. As you can see, I've used almost the exact appearance from the Duck's last set of feathers. It will indeed be interesting to see how the Rods work out. That's an interesting spar layout Chris. Did you use the CF ribbon? Where did you get the layout idea? I'm concerned with the point where the long spar meets the short spar - with repeated twisting of the wing, the 2 spars may push-pull against each other until the glue/foam between them breaks. Keep an eye on that, I think.
I'm trying to think of the whole list of changes I've made to the Duck this time. I'll edit this list when I remember more:
New nose, with internal strengthening rectangular ballast compartment instead of triangular used lowest hole on servo arm (instead of second lowest) to use fullest range of servo motion (corresponding lower hole used on control horn too) slight bend in pushrods to clear foam surface (required) lots of thinned goop to toughen EPP fibre tape on elevons instead of packing tape, adds strength to balsa and changes appearance of Duck bridged hinge-gap instead of covering each hinge-gap surface duck-tail anti-rip device fibreglass spars instead of carbon sealed all wiring slits with goop, for strength, instead of leaving slits open for convenience split battery saddle-packs instead of central battery pack
Also accidentally mounted one fin further back than the other. Don't know what effect that'll have.
Andew, I did a bit of the dicing and gooping on the nose, but it may have been redundant considering the goop layers I already had inside and outside the nose.

The whole thing was my idea from the start....i just went as i go about the sparsystem mate but doesnt it look good and yes the rods wil be interesting to see how they with hold my thresh hold ;D Here is a pic of the finished decal for the plane....the big web it has taken me all afternoon to do it but there was alot of distractions tho but still it was very long t do and now i have to make a smaller on tomorrow for the winglet.....I used the ribbons that was supplied and have glued the in with 5min epoxy and CA...Tey shouldnt break anytime soon hopefully lol The graphic design is all my idea....i wanted something that nobody has at the slope but also simple but yet stunning ::)nothing hard tho ;D So i really love spiders and i can draw spider webs really well so i thought to myself, Why dont i have a "spiderduck" hahahahaha (not really) And yer all these deas come to my head at once but i reakon this is the best i have had since....it will wrap arund the LE of the duck to go underneather it and it allso looks 3D aswell and u also get intranced in it because it ooks like it is spiralling inwards and plays a mind trick What is the end wieght of your duck with all the mods done to it

Hi Chris, I like your vinyl design a lot . I recommend spraying the surface you're sticking it to with very slightly soapy water before sticking it down - it'll be hard to stick down nice and flat without tearing if you don't. Sean.
