Hehe, nice report Andrew . I think we are crazy to keep bouncing back after such regular carnage. Wild Horse has a really nice DS zone when it's working but the rocks make it pretty unforgiving - you can crash a foamie hard into a grass hill with little or no damage but do the same onto jagged rocks and the results aren't good to say the least... On a turbulent day like today hand-catching really is not going to happen. Going slow near the ground the planes get chucked around so violently that the safest bet really is to plonk it into bushes. That's how the Bird got damaged - when it got close to the ground on the approach I just didn't have enough control to put it down exactly where I'd wanted and it came up short of the soft bushes. I'm sure hand-catching is an option is smooth lift but that's not how it tends to be at Wild Horse in a decent SW. The good news is I found a much larger area of soft shrubs that made landings much safer than where I'd been landing before.

Really sorry to hear about the carnage guys, both here and at Lemons. Good thing you're all such good builders/repairers . Seriously though, my hat's off to you all. You knew you were taking a risk when you launched and you went for it anyway. Gotta love that. Ken.

I tried Wild horse today in a northerly. The weather reports showed NNE before I left, and I expected it to shift NE as the day wore on, so thought it's be perfect to try DSing the other side of this hill.
Unfortunately when I got there th wind was pretty-much due-north blowing up the hill at 45 degrees so conditions weren't great. I took the Skua and Erwin but only flew the Skua. I did manage a fair few laps with the Skua but there wasn't much power at all despite quite a strong breeze, so not worth risking the Erwin (landing a moldie at Wild horse would be even riskier in an NE than it is in an SW, very few options and the air on the front was very bumpy today).

Hey sean, Those are some pics there and looks like a great site, Got a fair bit of time free over the xmas break with the better half overseas for 6weeks and the general wind down of my biz. I’m definitely keen to get up there and have a good go at ds’ing.
