Hi Steve, Andrew and I are considering climbing Mt Coolum later this week, but it's not definite yet. If you're free it'd be great if you could ride down and join us.
Sean.

This is just a copy of what I wrote in the General Flying thread, to put this where it belongs.
After a long day's DSing today with Sean and Ezza, flying Reapers and the Bat I have to rave about how good my modified Bat is. That thing is amazing. Sure, the Reaper is definitely a DS machine, and the Bat doesn't track perhaps as well, but it's really right up there. Mine is darn smokin' quick. Very, very fast. And man, is that thing tough! I had probably 6 massive busters >80 mph into the backside yesterday with it and it was still flying at the end of the day. From my experience with it, there's nothing else which has as much going for it as the Bat. I rate it 5 stars for value for money, durability, ease of build and overall fun factor. Performance 4 1/2 stars but that's a top package. It wins hands down.

From what I've seen, the only Windrider products sold locally are the Bee variations. I want to get a Windrider Easy Pro, and it'll have to come in from OS direct. But the price is still excellent, including postage. How does around $90 for a Bat sound? www.windrider.com.hk/product.asp?page=2&id=118

Guys, I really think we should try to keep smalltalk to a minimum in the build threads, so that others using them as a reference don't have to sift thru too much. Use messages, or the other chatty threads. Don't treat the info threads like a chat room. Maybe we could have a "General chat" sticky thread?
Yes $90 is now the going price for a Bat, unfortunately. I think it's best to just order it from Windrider direct to your door. Service is pretty good. Last time I checked it was a flat freight cost, ie no discount for multiple items. Let me know if that has changed.
Hey also, don't be mislead that these builds are quick or cheap! Having started the new one, I'm realizing (again) how time consuming and expensive it is. As Jeff said when he rang yesterday after reading these threads, the amount of work we're going to for foamies is massive and it's far in excess of the skill and effort to build a decent vacuum bagged wing!
Cost-wise, these Bat builds include all sorts of custom spars, balsa elevons, rods, and with all the glues, Goop, Profilm, you need to add a good $100 to the budget, and many hours of muttering and head scratching too. And that's without the cost of the radio gear, model alarm, control rods/horns (the kit ones are crap) batteries, etc.
I guess if you had to say what is the cost all-up to build one with all new gear, allow $400 plus 30 hours of working time.
I'm not sure I agree with going to this extent for foamies any more as they have such a short life span. As far as I'm concerned I'm looking for quick and dirty methods that get the thing in the air faster but flying well.
