Just found this thread at the bottom of the THERMAL section...'WINCHING AT BRACKEN RIDGE'. Appears that about a year ago there was quite a crew who used to go there. What happened? Why did you all stop? I know that you cant drive in now, but surely it must be central for most. I know that Andrew, Sean, Garth and myself have all been there recently with the bungee of mine, but what happened to dampen everyone elses enthusiasm? Am off to Nick's farm tomorrow so will have to ask Jeff and Ken.

Mike,
the answer is simple:
they started locking the gate. When we winched there we drove up.
Ken.

Went bungeeing with garth today as we both had the day off. Wind was s-w swinging all over the place. Garth had a 9min+ flight and the best I could do was 7min+....but we both had lots of <3min flights, tho' all landings on the ground safely.

Being on holidays, I got to go to BR today for a bungee. As there was only me, I took both my 3.3m planes and some new programming ideas on eack to see if I could improve things. Those who haven't been to BR, it looks like this... There were lots of workers there today working on the power lines on the North side, but no-one questioned my being in there. Here is the bungee and planes. It really is fun flying these big planes.

Out to BR again today...wind 5-10kts NE but thermals few and far between. Took out my Starling Pro for a fly as it has sat idle since I got my 3.3m planes. ...and it flew like an arrow up the bungee line and had an 8min+ flight on the last flight. It really is a great allround plane, tho I prefer it on the slope. The Pike is getting better, tho ordered wing-joiners from Norway, that are 4.5 degree (instead of the standard 3) as have been advised these make it an even better thermaler. Last flight with the Pike...

Well, the strong wind warning didn't eventuate, so went to BR with Garth bout 10:00. Garth had his new bungee rubber, and boy, does it pull harder than mine. Supposed to be the same, but mine has had a couple of hundred flights off it and it is thinner....and lighter coloured than it used to be, tho still works perfectly. Garths first flight was17min+, and I set a new PB of 29:30 from zoom. Can't seem to break the 30min! Garth had a couple more 10min flights and ended with a 25min+. The best I could do was a 10min+. I think I had a lot of luck on my side, whereas Garth can be down to 25m, then carefully work it back up. His best height during flight was app 280m....his last flight getting to 271m.

Hey Mike, great stuff. I'm keen to have a look at Garth's bungee. How does it perform - do you find it's better for your light 3m planes, or is it better suited to heavy planes/ and no headwind conditions??
I agree with the other guy - I think you should hang onto your Starling.

Hiya HolidayAndrew. I truely think that Garth's bungee is the same as mine was when new....just darkened (mine was grey when I got it/ now it is black), and thinned with use. Checked my invoice and both are 11mm od, 2mm wall hd. Garth's has more pull at 130 paces, so a little more difficult to hold for launching (but we have a new way of holding the beasts that ensure a 'wings-level' launch and better holding power- but you will have to wait to see!!!) I feel mine launches just as high as Garths, just not the initial pull....mine possibly more even throughout the launch.

A quick trip tp BR today with Garth. WOW...does his Sunracer move. I had trouble just tracking it as he flew it past me low and fast. Will be interrested to see what Andrew guns it at tomorrow. He has a Parkzone warbird p&p also... a real gem in the air. We both flew our 3.3m moldies off his bungee, but conditions were mostly sink. My first flight was 14min+, second was 3min....says it all. Managed 2 of my 4 flights over 10min with my Pike, so am happy with how I am flying, especially as when Andrew and I began this thread, a 5min flight was the norm. All planes home intact. Cheers, Mike.
