Anyone interested in trying the F3B course out at Harrisville a couple of times next year! Which day is a preference, Sat or Sun? Need 5 guys min to make flying the speed course flow well.
Distance is good fun but needs spotters/timers, so you need 12guys to fly 3 up comfortably. You can do it with less, but it gets pretty busy.

Can't plan that far ahead, but I'd be keen if I'm free. Sat is probably better for me.

Heck yeah!! I'd be keen for sure. Unless it's blowing 30+ knots at the slope. I'm probably not going to be able to make it before mid feb. Keen as from then onwards. Just need to build a new fuse for the Skorpion. No preference, Sat or Sun. Let us know if you are ever down this way Brian. Happy to show you around. Love to see you tearing up the slope with one of your toys. Got some glass friendly slopes down this way. Maybe even introduce you to the darkside. Eric

Jeff, looking at that too. Just going down my list of requests. So how about it guys, what if we run some one day thermal comps too. Realistically a simple event can be run anywhere you can put at least 3 winches down, so not necessarily at Harrisville. I'll try to get a tentative calendar out soon. For first time on a course if you can do sub 25seconds you are doing very well. The best guys can always get in the 16 to 18secs range every flight no matter what the conditions. Let's see if anyone can do this on their speed run. au.youtube.com/watch?v=JZLx8RE25yQ

I don't have a clue what we're talking about exactly, but I'm always up for something new.............any day for me, Harrisville is only 20min from home.

Sorry I should have described the tasks. Very basically, a course is setup on one side of the winch lines. It has a base A (winch end) and a base B (150m away). Each base has a sighting device and a timer/signaller. F3B has 3 tasks: Speed = 4x150m laps on the course. There is a time limit, but we won't worry about that. You only fly on one side of the course. Distance = as many laps as you can fly on the course in 4 mins. You can fly either side and as far away as you like and you fly against other pilots. Up to 4, very tactical. Duration (Thermal- which is just like the thermal tasks most of you have tried) Admittedly it takes a bit to set up and you need people to time/spot, but it is great fun for the pilots. I'm happy to set up a course, just need some pilots and timers and it would be very informal. The main aim is enjoyment. If it can be put up a winch it can have a go at the course. (It may not actually finish it though ;D ) For more formal info about F3B www.silentflight.org/F3B/F3BTasks.htmlThe one day comps Jeff is talking about would be thermal. All you need is a model to fly. A winch would always be available.

I’d been keen to have a go at the thermal comp (2m fling) and the racing (fleagle with ballast)…….with my lack of skill and not too competitive models I would never be a threat but still be fun to have a go! Would a 2m fling handle a winch launch?

Yes, but it would be very low or very broken ;D ;D, The bungy would get it higher
Edit - Oops its the 2m version That would winch OK

Count me in . Love to give the Caracho a whirl at what it's best at (me - that's another story). Actually I'd be just as keen to give distance a go while we have the course set up. I remember it as being great fun and it's not as intense as speed. I work Saturdays so Sunday works for me . Ken.

My speed pb is 17.4secs using the Caracho that Shane now has. They are quick on the course, very stable on launch but take a bit of sorting to get up the line consistently high, especially still air. I had a lot of fun (and a bit of hair pulling) with my Caracho when I had it, it had a lot of air time and I learned a lot while I had it.
Sean, I still haven't located a decent secondhand turnaround.
