Looks nice Sean. Your soldering confidence is improving! You can get that shrink wrap in several widths of clear which looks nice too. Budget Hobbies and Peter Pine's flyelectric site have it. I bought a length of it recently and covered some servos in it, but don't have much left because I discovered a new klutz trick. Put the soldering iron down next to the clear shrink and it all puckers up! That's my normal shed style.

H Sean nice job, are the two leads for a backup in case one comes loose?

Hi Nige,
That's right, it's just a form of redundancy incase the wire gets damaged, or a solder joint fails, or whatever. The plug has four pins so I'll have two leads going to the receiver as well.

Still no sign of the servos. It'll be three weeks since I ordered them from Tower this Friday. Another order I made with them a couple of days earlier arrived in two weeks, and there was no rush at all for those items!
I've come to the following conclusion:
The time it takes for an order from Tower Hobbies to arrive is inversely proportional to how desperately you want the parts contained in the order.

sean. it took me a month to get the servo's i ordered a few years back for the e60 i built. it is frustrating when they say 2 weeks and after 3 you still haven't received them yet. give it another week.
however i've found that if you spend the extra $$ and get the express priority postage you get the parts inside 4 days. which i did previously to my servo order

It took 3 1/2 weeks for the servos to arrive for my Carbon Bird but every other order I've made has arrived in 2 weeks or less. The expensive shipping was $60 for this particular order... I felt it was worth waiting a few days to save $30 or more.

yeah... really comes down to how desperately you require the order and total savings if you were to buy them in Australia... my past order was for some r/c car parts. with the fast shipping it came to about the same as what i would have paid in oz, but i needed these parts immediately...

Painfully true though. I have made a little progress with dads' Orca. Soldered and installed the wiring loom tonight. Curious about which servos you have chosen for the fuse Sean? Seems the tray takes a little modifying for Airtronics. Nothing major though. Eric

Glad to hear it Eric. I've done a few things but the meat of the build is the servo install, so kinda hard without them. I'm going Airtronics all-round. Hope the servo tray doesn't need too much work.

One thing that's probably worth mentioning - I CA'ed the stab joiner rod to the fin. The instructions recommended this to reduce slop. The stab is now rock-solid. Wasn't sure about this at first - thought it might make the elev movement sticky, but a bit of sanding on the carbon joiner got the stabs rotating nice and smoothly. A bit of silicon spray should finish the job.

The Orca is nearly ready for flight. I've been meaning to post some build pics but would rather spend the time building! I'll try to get some up this evening.

Hi Jeff, I should be able to make it! Haven't thermalled for quite some time now. The Orca's pretty much finished now, except for some minor detail work. Just spent several hours setting up all the throws. There is one potential prob for Monday... The clevises that were supplied have tiny little brass pins and I managed to lose one. The hardware is all 2mm so normal 2-56 clevises don't fit. Andrew Barnes is Express posting some matching clevises for me tomorrow, so fingers crossed they arrive before the weekend.
