Well have just spent a few days over at Point Lookout and had a couple of good flying the bee and a chance to try a few different spots. The wind was blowing in form the NE and we flew at Adder rock at the Home beach side. there was about 15knts of wind and some good lift. There is heaps of room and good landing spots on soft grass.
I noticed a spot up near the main shop area that is overlooking Frenchmans beach and threw the Bee but discovered some very bad Turbulance due to the amount of trees in the area. If you went higher and closer to the cliff face above the trees it would be great but lack of experience or fear of going over stopped me from taking risks. Didn't get a chance to go for a walk around deadmans and Frenchmans beach to try the little headland there but it would be perfect in a North to easterly wind. I thought i would also do a bit of night flying of adder rock and when we left the house there was a nice 10knt NE wind by the time we got to the rock which is a 4 minute drive, the wind had died to less than 5knts. had a few throws but nothing to write about. by the time we got home it was 15knts for the SE.
So next mroning it was down to Main Beach and the surf lifesavers headland. It was a bit to easterly for the headland but had some really good flying in the sand dunesSome really good lift. Also managed to get the Queen Bee up and she just glided peacefully across the dunes. Managed to convert a freind to buying a Bee so there should soon be a nice little group of flyers on the Island
So if you do go over to Stradie make sure you take your planes as there are a few good slopes but alot of the areas are being overgrown as local greens are replanting the headlands.
