Even tho the forecast and beacons weren't saying too much for today, I decided to do the trek up to Mt Mee. Gateway was at a standstill at Burpengary, so a quick fly at Reinbird rd (crap) so went in through Dayboro and looked for new spots along the way- found nothing.
Got to Pedwell Rd at 2pm and a 2-5kt breeze was blowing up the face. Through out the trusty old Bee, and flew for 30min, then went down to the container and had a go at DSing, as Andrew and Nick have done recently. Just enough lift frontside to stay up, but after dialing down the rates, I had the Bee whipping around, turnung within a metre of the ground. Clipped the grassline or hit the ground a few times, but it certainly was a lot more fun than frontside. Wind picked up about 3pm at 5-8kts, so decided to throw my Albatross off. This is an older style 2.6m full-house moldie that I purchased off TheVon, and have flown it several times (even winched it) and had great success. My dx6i doesn't give me much mixing, but I do have flaps for landing, so all is good. Flew for bout half an hour and Nick turned up. Played with his foamies, then threw his Faser off. That is one lovely plane to watch! The wind dropped till we could hardly feel it, but we both managed to make several flights/landings without mishap. The owner's( Simon) dad and brother turned up to do some work at the container, and were very interrested in the flying. Chatted for a while and asked them to pass on everyone's thanks for making this great site available to us. Left about 5pm after a couple of pics of the planes/pilots, which Nick will hopefully put up. A really fantastic day.
Winching at Woodford in the morn, and Mt Mee hopefully again in the arvo. ;D

03-05-09 Another great day...winching in the morn- thanks to Sean and Nick for the use of your winches, and.... Mt Mee in the arvo. About 10 there in all. Very impressed by ( in 0-8kts max)- Ducks..they are so clean and stable. Watching them shooting along a narrow path in single file 30 cm off deck, then off to do it again. Skuas... fast and smooth. Faser... DSing in a cutaway the size of the av. houseblock.(71mph) Erwin... over 115mph in app 8kts of wind. Peter from Wowings little jet... awsome, just awesome. Bluto... fast and smooth with a bit of wind. Ninja... I love to fly this, boy she rolls. The site... how lucky are we to have this place. Thanks to all who made this a great day- Andrew, Sean, Nick, Dennis, Peter,Simon and a couple of others I forgot. ...and I forgot to add- Vector... my favorite plane to watch, and goes in little-to-no wind. Miraj...would love to own this plane; fast, smooth, and did i mention fast and smooth!

Yep it was such a great time hanging out being little boys with our toys. We started at the Woodford field, thermalling from around 10am but there wasn't a lot of thermal action so we headed to Mt Mee. Being rather SSE it was still a bit patchy, but we flew lots of stuff. Mike you left my Miraj AND my Vector off the list!! And we were DSing the FAZO not the Fazer!! This is discrimination against my fleet! There were some other guys there when we arrived, but they left by the time I stuck the camera on the roof of the car and took this photo. Here is a mug shot of the troops. From left, it's Pete, me (AvB), Mike, Sean, Nick, Simon. Sean was being a bit difficult to photograph and insisted that he had to keep watching the Vector he was flying, rather than turning to grin for the photo.

Thanks for the fly of the Vector Andrew . Awesome plane. There wasn't much lift but with some camber it climbed easily. The strangest thing was scratching for height while inverted... it performs exactly the same upside down as it does the right way up and that is hard to get your head around at first (with a glider). Better rudder authority than on any sloper I've flown before, it did the neatest stall-turns I've ever done plus could do all sorts of different snap/spin manoeuvres. I can only imagine how much fun it would be with more lift. At the price Andrew Barnes is selling them it seems like the sloping bargain of the century! Also great to see Andrew DSing the Fazo in the cutaway. Big plane, not much room plus an old Landcruiser and shipping container to dodge! Nick was flying perfect laps as low as possible but not enough wind to keep his Skua in the groove.

Went out to Woodford (winery) today with Ken and his crew for a bit of winching; am really beginning to enjoy this, probably because my plane goes pretty much straight the line without any dramas. Had several flights, and with Ken's help managed an extended one with a bit of climing. Managed to land within about 50cm of the spot on one occasion....and 50 m on another. Went home via Mt Mee and 15-18kts straight up the slope, so off went the 1100g Bluto. AWSOME! SO MUCH LIFT AND ONLY ME. WITH NO ONE TO SEE ANY FAILURES, i DECIDED TO PUSH THE PLANE , GOING VERY HIGH AND ROLLING OVER INTO A DOWNWIND DIVE AT THE SLOPE AND PULLING UP AS LATE AS i DARED THEN RACING ALONG IN FRONT OF ME, PULL UP AND ROLL,ROLL,ROLL BACK INTO SPACETO DO IT AGAIN. iT REALLY LOOPS AND ROLLS WELL. This plane is amazingly fast and turns like its on rails. Can't believe how fast it is and it really whistles past.

;D Got some time off work, so went to Mt Mee again as it looked like a promising day. Arrived at 10 and Garth was already flying a fab little v-tail moldie he has, ail, rud and elev- weighs less than 500g, but could not believe how fast it was, yet could also be a floater. It accelerated so well, and even when the wind got to 15kts, it just went faster and faster. Flew my Bee and Albatross for the first 2 hrs, and the wind came up for a while so gave the Monkey a fly, but spent heaps of time with the Bluto and Ninja in the air- these planes are both fast, smooth and very aerobatic. Made about 30 landings in all, and no repairs ;D ;D ;D...tho some of the landings were a bit wayward as the wind would be pumping, then drop right out. A total of 5hrs there, and about 4.5hrs in the air. Rain chased us away at 3pm, but I have had a gr8 week of flying.
