I was hoping to get a few of you guys helping with some grunge work next Saturday at Dayboro to do more clearing and slashing of the Lemontree Ridge site, in preparation for some westerly flying over winter. I had planned to take my small tractor and mowing deck out there which would really be useful for pushing some lantana and for cleaning up landing areas. But unfortunately it turns out that my mate's car trailer isn't strong enough for the roughly 1300kg tractor.
I looked at hiring a car trailer but there's no way I'm going to fork out >$100 to hire one for a day. Not worth it.
So unless someone can borrow a car trailer I'll have to give that idea a miss. I can get a self propelled slasher (or maybe 2) which would be slower but would still do the job.

Wow Nick has come up with the goods! He's snaffled the loan of a car trailer from a friend. So we're meeting at Narangba at 8am, to load the trailer and head out to Lemontree.
So that means the day is ON, and any help will be appreciated. If you're keen to come, message me for the directions. Being a private site I can't post the address etc, and of course for the owner's sake I'll only invite onto the property people I know and trust.
I'm hoping that we get enough done, and then get a good westerly and can spend most of the arvo flying!
So far I think we have Me, Nick, Sean, Chris, DrCuzo, hopefully Mikey100, and I may have forgotten someone else.

Well, the forecast indicates we might get some SW wind on Sat. It has been downgraded from 15-20 kts to 10-15, easing in the arvo, which isn't a good sign. But keep the fingers crossed. Miracles do happen!

Looks like Shane's coming too. Gerard may drop out for a while depending on other things.
Hopefully we'll get some sort of a SW in the morning. The most important thing is to have fun and I really do hope we get a fly!

Well it was a great day today. Thanks to all the guys - Shane, Sean, Mike, Chris, Gerard, and special thanks to Nick, who put in a very big effort bringing the car trailer and towing the tractor out to the farm. Plus Nick's farming expertise was of great help in many ways!
The conditions were light, but there was plenty of flying and some huge thermals. At one stage Gerard's Ozprey was almost a speck above, so we got the gun out and he was clocked at 104mph at the bottom of the dive! His grin was worth seeing.
Everyone had a go at DSing the Bowl. Although speeds were only 50 - 70 at most, it was so smooth that it was excellent practice. Everyone agreed it was a top spot. Nick was really looking smooth with his Skua, and Shane's Reaper was probably the most spectacular, even though Sean's Carbon Bird probably went quickest. Chris was having a bad time dialling in his Reaper and had a couple of extended bushwalks (extreme scrub-bashes) retrieving it.
But we also put in lots of hard work and managed to slash landing areas, clear the view a lot along the ridge, and open up the DS areas even more. Nobody was killed or injured by the dangerous machinery, no planes were demolished, and no rear windows were shot out by Hosemonster bungees. And the tractor came home in one piece too.
Most importantly I came home with my sunglasses, as I tied them round my neck with a strap!
It was a great day all round - a real success. It was tame DSing in today's light conditions but I'm looking forward to trying it out in a really wild southwesterly. It could be very scary. ... and hopefully we'll get to push some speeds up (watch out you Victorian DSers).
Quite a few photos were taken, so hopefully we'll see some posted here soon!

well i just unloaded the car and im nackered BUT, great people, great work done, great day! fantastic farm owner, hard to meet a nicer man, and what a site, it was my first time there and gee i can see how when it blows from the south east it will pump, gerard caught a thermal with his wing and i swear if you blinked you would have lost it, it was so high, maybe 1000 feet, then dived it and clocked over 100mph on the radar. i also had some fun doing some ds. great spot to learn. that's enough from me as andrew always gives such a great report on the days flying and activities.
best of flying to everyone nick

It was a great day, even if the wind wasn't great it was long over due for me to get out. The Ozprey 104mph dive just topped the day off. Thanks to Andrew (a work horse) for bringing out the tractor, made a massive difference. Here are a few photos from the day, the rest can be found at: www.windsock.net.au/photos_html/gallery31.htmlGerard

Thanks for a fun day guys, and a big thanks to Andrew for organising the day with Bob plus bringing along the tractor . A few of the highlights from the day: * Four foamies DSing at once... Nick's Skua and my Skua trying to knock each other out of the sky. I hope we can do this more often. * Nick's ultra-smooth DSing with the Skua. * Shane's really smooth DSing of his modded Reaper. It was amazing to see the difference between his Reaper and the Skuas, it holds energy as well as a moldie, and sounds just like one too. As fast as my C Bird I reckon. * Shane trimming the lantana back with a wood-worker's reciprocating saw (blade must have been about 6 inches long and 1 inch wide). It actually worked really well. * Shane nearly cutting into a Python whilest doing this (Nick carried it off to somewhere a little safer). * Chris driving an old derelict Commodore down the hill out of the way. Sean.
