Just wondering if anyone is interested in going flying at Mt Mee on Friday? I know Sean is interested and Andrew should be able to make it after lunch. I will be there around 11am.
For those that can’t make it and haven’t been there yet, we would like to plan a Saturday or Sunday for people to go up and check it out. At this stage (depending on weather) maybe next weekend?

Sorry, I'm working Friday As I've said elsewhere I'd love to go up for a fly one day. I'm going to be very busy for a little while so here's hoping it works out

Thanks for the fun at Mt Mee today fellas. A great spot with plenty of lift across a wide area ;D I know now how slow and boring my Bee is compared to what can be had OK, it's still fun, just slow fun ;D Good for the wife and kids to learn on too. I was surprised by the OzPrey - its smallish yet very fast and has great penetration. Despite that it still climbed more quickly than my Bee. In other words it was better in every respect The Bat and Drongo were awesome too. I think I might invest in a lost model alarm. It wasn't fun down that steep bit of hillside, especially when Gerard came down and found it up near the top quite quickly (thanks mate). An alarm would have saved me some hassle.

Yeah, it was good - and great to meet you and the wife and kids Simon! Good on ya for being there. The time flew by much too fast as usual. Keep in touch and see you up there again soon.
Your Bee was excellent, specially for someone who's only been flying a few months. Really good. We're all a bit too self-occupied. Next time, get one of us to have a fly of it and give you some feedback on how it feels. Bees are really quite a good performer but as with all planes, you have to tweak them to fly properly.
Yes, I think everyone needs a model alarm! We drove back down that hill and looked at the thick scrub further down .... hmmm, keep away from it! Andrew

Gerard and I went to Mt Mee today - forecast was for 10/15 SE but there was NUTHIN when we got there! So we drove up the track further looking for other potential sites, but it's all thickly forested.
But I got the chainsaw and cut down more of the dead trees on the left, so it's a lot clearer now. Extremely hard work with the steep slope and lantana. But the clearing/ chopping is finished now.
But by 2pm a few puffs had turned into a reasonable light breeze and we had a great fly. I had a couple of flights of the new Ozprey, and it was impressive. It seemed to soar almost as efficiently as the Minij in the light breeze. I was impressed with how stable it was, in 2 ways: 1) for a planky wing with a small tail, I don't understand why it doesnt' show any sign of wobbling or wallowing when you slow it down. It tracks very straight and clean. 2) Also I was impressed with how flat it turned. When you bank gently, it doesn't drop the nose at all, and it stays quite flat in the turns. When you point it down it really picks up speed fast. Not bad. I'm going to get one - I reckon it would be a great intermediate DS machine for me.

Hey guys, Is Mt Mee private property, or can anyone fly there. I usually fly at Laidley, Rosins, postman's track, and occassionaly Maleny, but I'm always keen to try out a new slope Cheers Ando

You drive through on a state forest road. We normally cross the fence and fly on the side of the hill which is private property. Andrew has spent sometime building up a good relationship with the owner. So much so that he gave Andrew permission to cut down the dead trees on his property. I guess what we say to everyone wanting to fly at Mt Mee is to be friendly and polite to the owner and respectful of any locals driving through.
It's a great site, I'm sure you'll love it.

Yeah Ando, go for it - the owner is happy for glider flyers to use the site. But like all private property sites, the permission is contingent on flyers keeping the owner happy, so do everything you can to be nice if you see anyone, don't mess anything up, etc etc.

Just keeping it all in the one thread...
Is anyone going up to Mt Mee in the near future, i.e. between boxing day and new years or the week after? Just curious as I have yet to retrieve my bee out of a tree and would prefer the safety of numbers (of adults) for safety reasons due to the location of the site.. ie miles from anywhere.
Feel free to PM me if you are thinking of heading out. Merry Christmas to all and a safe holidays to you and your families. Cheers, Jim.

Hi Jim, on the trip home to Hervey Bay from the Shorncliffe chrissy party this coming Sunday i am wanting to stop and have a fly at a couple more locations on the way, this would be early next week, perhaps even Monday.
If my lost model locater turns up before the weekend then i want to try Mt Mee so i might be of some use to you. Also it would be great to go there with someone who knows the place.

I'm dead keen to get back up to Mt Mee and quite likely I'll come along. I'd really like to meet up with you guys for a fly and to help get the plane down (God knows, I've got the experience!).
But the only problem is the DS-obsession. If the wind's SSE I'll be heading for Bald Knob. If we get a really strong SE to E I have another spot I'm keen to try too.
