Hi felix, the diving has my attention! I wont be able to visit this year but may possibly get there on a slope tour early next year, the 6-10 metre cliff sloping from a local $20/night visit gets my holiday curiosity going. Please let us know how it goes by story and some pics if possible. Have a great time!

Great idea, but Felix, where's that slope? I visited my in-laws place at Pottsville a couple of weeks ago (took less than 2 hrs from Redcliffe) and was looking for a place to fly, but couldn't find anything. But I admit I didn't look at Hastings, just around Pottsville. Ezza only lives half an hour from there, so if he's available, he could show you some slopes down his way.

well i'm planning on late march and will sort out a date soon. vanders.....yeah even a day trip would be worthwhile, although if anyone is not set up/comfortable camping there is plenty of caravan or lodge accom plus a few motels. atmosteve.....yeah the diving is definately nice,i was only snorkelling with the girly in the rivers and estuaries, her first time after getting over her fear of "jaws" related episodes .but some really clear deep water spots where i think reef fish and crays would be plentiful.will definately get some pics n all when i go,it's a great unknown spot.done alot of camping and day trips all around mainly on the bike and i keep coming back lol. thevon.....the slope is hastings point headland- head north along the coastal road 5-10mins and take a right at hastings point bottlo/takeaway shop.you are right bout pottsville though it's pretty flat unless you head west a bit where i reckon there would be some top spots!(although i taught myself to fly off the sand dunes and waves there with the fling and electra).like the idea of a local showing some good spots too that would be great.

Felix, as a past weekend regular to hastings, and a long time before i discovered the joys of flying, the rock pools at the base of the point are excellant for kids, and adults to discover the wonders of marine life. The channels hold some great skin diving sights and there is an abundance of "wow" factor with the marine life. Be careful of the turning tide, as the current can get pretty strong and the waves can give you a good bashing on to the rocks. Also there used to be a resident blue ringed octopus, but in the 4 or 5 years i ventured there i never saw him, or poked him till he turned blue!! But others did. We used to do alot around the point and estuary with school biology, and also used it to learn to dive. Cook Island is also worth a look if you can get there (scuba) and julian rocks.
We went camping on the Hasting's headland a couple of years ago (school holidays) and the breeze was strong and constant straight up the point. Looking back i am kicking myself for not taking a wing with me on that holiday. It would definately been worth it.

jimd.....it definately is pretty amazing place to explore! know what you mean by the current though,at the mouth of the estuaries it flows extremely fast -but does make for some good fishing lol.haven't seen a bluey there yet but did see a dragon fish and cuttlefish, used to get heaps of those three where i was brought up (merimbula) and had heaps of fun as a kid stirring them up ;D bet you were upset without a wing at hastings haha!although it's a shame that you can only camp there during h'days seasons. that site is the reason i'm now flying slope and not falling asleep with a thermalling electra.
well there's your proof people, hoping at least a few make it cause it's definately worth the short trip.

Good for surfing there as well. I'll keep checking the forum for when you guys are down. Might come up or if wind direction is better down this way, happy to show off some local slopes. Northerlies give the most options down this way, although any direction is flyable. Eric
