Since flying my dlg on the weekend i have been thinking about starting a FUN comp for dlg's, mini dlg's and alula's. Could make it every 2/3 months just a chance for all the guy's to talk alot of b.s and have a FUN fly.
This is what i've thought of:
Maximum wing span 1.5m (nothing bigger as we could acquire a smaller field in a good area)
Could run 3 events - 1 north side, 1 south side and 1 on Gold Coast to accommodate the guys from Byron Bay and northern NSW
Could use a football field - offer to give a donation to the club for use of field and charge a small fee for every entrant
I can make a frequency board so no frequencies get mixed up and people would have to buy a frequency key from a hobby shop which is only a couple of dollars. Then people can post their frequencies prior to the event.
i can try to ask a few local hobby shops for some small donations as prizes.
The main thing on the day is everyone has fun and there is no overall winner and i can bring my bbq for a few snags.
If anyone has any suggestions fell free to post please. I'm just trying to get the ball rolling.

Hi Garth,
For myself, just getting together with a few like-minded pilots and flying our handlaunch gliders would be a blast!
first question: should we do all our posting about DLG in this thread from now on, and ignore the 'DLG Fun' thread? I ask because I don't want to miss other people's input if they post in the earlier thread.
I'm in for whatever's going with the Alula until the Blaster gets here/built.
Why not hold a gathering/event at the Bracken Ridge site as it's easy to get to whether you're North or South, and see where it goes from there?
Have you had a look at any of the F3K stuff? That's the FAI class for DLG comps. There's some good tasks in there for when there's lift around. Perhaps mixing some of those with fun tasks like most catches in 90 seconds or make 3 identical flight times without knowing what the timing is.
Good onya for stepping up to get something going!
Ken.

thanks Ken - great suggestions!
they sound like some really good ideas
not really sure about Bracken Ridge - might have to contact some people about the site as there was a trespassing sign there - maybe Andrew might know a bit more but would be great to fly there
cheers Garth

Great success usually follows the K.I.S.S. method. Start simple and uncomplicated, and when you have success...build upon it. Nothing breeds success like success.

Made a few calls today about the BR site. The reason it is all fenced of is because Power-link is about to start a new project there. There going to be running high voltage lines on this site.
Another great site lost to power lines. The BCC has told me that they have opened up some new parks at the Nundah dump I'm not sure if anyone have been there? I'm still on the look out.
Cheers Garth

Hi Guys, Sounds great would love to catch up with some other dlg pilots (family commitments permitting). I have a QF11 DLG and I maidened my alula today. Was having fun and managed to get a little bit of low level thermal activity before the tx battery decided to run out. BTW, I met mikey100 at my local reserve last Sunday flinging the Kahu. I went back to the reserve around lunch time with the trusty easy star. Managed to hook into a couple of ripper thermals. Had a good 10-15 mins soaring. Cheers Ben

I Have found a field to fly at and its not being used for anything. Its next to Carindale shopping center on Old Cleveland Road. I went and flu there today and there were some small bits of lift around 2/3 min flights. The park has amenities and it the size of a cricket field x2.
I hope to have a date soon, it will be next month some time. Cheers Garth
Or we could try to meet at br site next weekend

The first round of the "DLG FUN DAY COMP" will be held on the 26th of September at Bracken Ridge site at 9:00am.
The day is for all hand launch and discus launch gliders and generally a bunch of guys to have a chat and share tips and set ups.
As for the events on the day it is still up for discussion and will be decided on a few days before the event but nothing too serious.
so everybody get building or start buying
hope to see everyone there to help out and/or participate in a good fun day
look forward to it

From dlg fun day down south. (rc groups)
ľ Launching and Landing will be completed from within a marked out 30m X 30m square.
ƒæ If you land outside the 30m X 30m box you will get Zero for that round. ¡§inside the box¡¨ means any part of the aircraft on or over the line.
ľ Flight time is 3 minutes or as close to. Any time over 3 minutes will result in the exceeded time been deducted from 3 minutes to give you a final time. E.g. a 3.25 minute flight will result in a 2.35 minute final score for that round etc etc.
ƒæ From the time the time keeper says ¡§Launch¡¨ you have a 5 second time frame for your aircraft to be in the air. If you exceed 5 seconds you will incur a 10 second penalty for your flight.
ľ You are allowed multiple launches with in the 3 minute time frame as long as each landing is within the 30m X 30m square. For each landing except the final landing in the 30m X 30m box you will incur a 10 second penalty off your flight time for that round.
ľ If you have zeroed a flight you will not be able to relaunch for that round.
ľ For a final result to be given at the end of the competition each pilot must have had the opportunity to fly a minimum of six three minute rounds. The pilot with the highest amount of massed flight time at the end of the competition will be declared the winner and will take home the DLG Cup until the next competition. At the end of the season (yet to be determined) the pilot who has taken the DLG Cup home the most times will be awarded the cup to
