Hi, I meant to post this here earlier. If anyone is interested we'll be having some aerotow flying at the TARMAC field south of Toowoomba this weekend. From 0900 on Saturday and Sunday as well if numbers OK.
Anyone welcome as always.

Hi guys, a bit of a report about the joint MRSSA and TARMAC aerotow event, it went quite well considering many were unable to make it. Partly due to the recent date change/other events clashing and my mistake of not noticing the two different dates published for it until recently.
To fix that we have a confirmed date for next year, October 16/17th, but have other days planned during the year.
Even though the turnout was lower than hoped, interest was high from spectators and we had a lot of requests for when will it happen again. In the past we have had a dearth of tugs in the region which has caused issues during previous events. The future looks very rosy with what is out there now.
Karl, Dave Ando and I made the trip from Brissy and over the weekend we met up with Siggi, Dave Morgan, Large Scale Aerobatic guru and CD Mike Dakers, MAAA CFI Mick Snabitis, Stef Grey, and members of TARMAC and other clubs who came out to help and see what it was all about. Mike Dakers did a great job undertaking the majority of the towing with a 50cc Piper Cub, Dave Ando had his 74cc Cub and my 58cc AgWagon which flew a bit but never had a tow due to tuning issues.
The sailplanes - Karl maidened his 4.5m Minimoa (a whopping 20lb model) even though we had a few misgivings about it getting in the air easily it flew extremely well and looked great in the air. It would get airborne in metres and caught some BIG thermals. Unfortunately even a gifted pilot like Karl can have a bad day. His canopy blew off downwind which acted like an air brake, he lost height quickly in the strong wind at the time and hit a fence post which completely destroyed an inner wing panel. Luckily the damage was mostly confined to that area. It will fly again. Dave A flew his ASW24 and little ASW27. I flew my bigger 3.5m ASW27 (had some awesome flights) and took out my part completed 100cc 120" Big Stick tug and 3.5m Kirby Kite. Got the urge to get the 6m ASH26 finished now. Got to play with my voice vario too, it really is cheating. No wonder they are banned for thermal comps! Dave M had his museum quality models, the Skylark 4 and Salto. Siggi had a Nimbus. Nearly a disaster on its first flight with a broken rudder cable. Mike had a beautiful all molded DG600.
We actually got a fair bit of flying done considering. We discussed future events and will, with the help of other clubs around SE QLD, seek interest in holding a few more events/practice days during the year. Hopefully BESS in Bundy, Maryborough, Dalby and some private sites will help out. Aerotow needs a fairly large flat smooth area especially for towing up some of the larger models.
So keep this date free next year October 16/17th and keep a eye out for events as they are published. I'll do an article for the MAAQ Airflow magazine and I will also keep Scale Soaring Australia informed as I've received referred contacts from them in the past.
I know this is pretty far from slope soaring but it is another facet of the wonderful jewel that is R/C Soaring and some of you have an interest that stretches that far.
Cheers Brian

Sounded like a grest time apart from the accidents. Those are some big planes, it would have been good to see, and see easily. Thanks for the report.
