I have the Futaba 12FG, which is about half the price of the 14MZ.
It has virtually all the functionality of the 14MZ, including 14 channels, but doesn't have the flash user interface with colour, touchscreen and sound. I don't miss those, but you may.
What is the same between both radios is the FASST 2.4GHz system, which has been absolutely bulletproof for me. There is one Qld pilot who lost a plane with a FASST receiver in it, that is a very unusual occurrence (worldwide) with FASST.
So the 12FG would be my recommendation for an absolutely top-of-the-line handheld glider (and everything else) radio in the Futaba camp.
The DSX9 is by far the most popular mid to high end glider radio in Australia, and with good reason. It has good functionality and the local distributor gives great support. More pilots have problems with the Spektrum 2.4GHz system used in the DSX9 than with Futaba. Mostly it is power supply issues, and there's lots of info available about that - including here on Windsock. Some crashes are simply unexplained though, and although power supply is the first suspect it can't be proven. It also has to be said there are a lot more pilots using Spektrum than FASST so you'd expect more issues on a statistical basis.
There is no doubt at all that both Spektrum and FASST can and do deliver reliable performance to thousands of pilots all over the world. Here endeth the disclaimer!!
Whatever you choose in the JR or Futaba camp can be expected to give good service.
Do be aware though that with 2.4GHz systems it is very important to buy a system that has a C-Tick for Australian compliance. That usually means buying in Australia. Without a C-Tick sticker, if you have a problem and there's an insurance claim, it is your responsibility to prove that your radio is compliant with the Australian regs and you are liable if it isn't.

Haha, Thanks for the info! I don't have that kind of money to throw at planes I barely have enough to buy food!, the DSX9 will do me just fine I am thinking.
