Yesterday arvo at Shorncliffe I took my new video camera and got some footage of the site and the flying. Thought I'd post it on RC Groups to show those southern Slope Trash. I just had it set on the "Easy" mode as I haven't deciphered how to do more advanced stuff like manual focus, locked focus, etc. I downloaded it last night and although the video quality is OK the sound is terrible. My narration sounds like the wheezy voice of an old smoker with advanced emphysema. Which is a minor issue, since the wind noise pretty much totally blocks most of it out anyway. I'll have to have a play around with a microphone wind shield.
When I get time I'll edit it together with a voiceover. But at the moment I'd prefer go into the shed and work on the Wizard, or go flying, or read the Sony Handycam manual, or something.
Anyway it was a great arvo yesterday. I went about 2pm and there were white caps galore. The wind was around 20 knots - great strength, but a bit off-angle northerly. The Vector flew superbly (you must be getting sick of hearing me say that). The kite surfers have started coming right across in front of the cliffs ... close enough to make you hold back a bit at times! It was nice. A few interested spectators hung off the fence watching the colour of ocean, blue sky, red Vector and gawdy kitesurfers slicing through the chop and hanging off their chutes. Standing in the wind on the lip may have been the coolest spot in sweltering Brisbane. Just going back to the car felt like a sauna.
Bill arrived and we videoed each other a bit - my Miraj and his Bee. No hassles landing the moldies on the south end of the top.
Oh, and the rumours about Gerard's (Windock's) death have been greatly exaggerated. He made a surprise appearance yesterday and despite his disappearance from the forum he's definitely alive. And he hasn't lost his flying skill. We did some pretend F3F slope racing and his Ozprey didn't give a lot away to the Miraj. Very impressive flying by Gerard and the Ozprey is an amazing little plane. Gerard will be known in legend as "He who died with every plane he ever owned still looking new".
Then Mark turned up with his Eagle, Mike also soon followed, and then Steve (Ding). Each arrival was punctuated by retrieving the Handycam from the car to record a bit more. We filmed Steve doing one of his textbook landing approaches and he stuffed it up. Gave him a hard time, and by the time he'd re-emerged from the cactus spikes I'd filmed Gerard's perfect touchdown. But Steve redeemed himself being filmed with a perfect hand catch on the next attempt.
When I left the combat was in full swing. Thwacking noises, laughter and fence-sitters ducking for cover. A great Shorncliffe arvo.
