You're right Ding, it is is Chad Nowak, my typo . Did you see Chad DSing at Beechmont? Eric, is the Beechmont DS site accessible to the public or is it on private land? It looks like they're standing in the property across the road from the main Beechmont site? Looks like a nasty spot to DS though, those trees are VERY close BTW The vids above are all from this page: www.northcountyflyingmachines.com/videoclips.htmYep, I saw Chad DS'ing. We had quite a long chat to him about it. To be honest, it was what got me back into flying gliders again. I was corresponding with him for a while too. Anyway, he just got up some height on the main slope and then walked over into the paddock across the road and started DS'ing. I imagine it is private property, but I think they are used to a fair bit of packing foam and balsa being tossed around up there. It was pretty wild too. The turbulence was amazing. He got tossed into the ground a couple of times, but it was still pretty impressive to see. I'd be keen to go to Beechmont again one day too. For me it's actually the same time to beechmont as it is to go to Malaney (pretty much an hour dead). The only negative to it is last time there were a couple of guys up there drinking and flying. Their favourite game was trying to hit you! I presume they weren't skilled enough to hit other planes so they used to go for the pilots. I had to threaten violence for them to stop! These are the kind of people that loose flying sites for us. In regards a trip down that way, I'm busy in the lead up to our big trip so it might have to be next season now

No, you're not an idiot. Let's just say... I can't think of the term. Maybe you're right What did you learn? How do you DS on the frontside? Or did you mean in the tiny layer of dead air on the top?

For the record guys, I reckon DS'ing at SC is idiotic when you are so close to houses, traffic, and pedestrian traffic, especially on weekends. Its a tight, highly populated area. Fair enough, death corner gives you a bit more of a buffer, but it is only small when you consider the speeds we are chasing. I fear the day that something awful happens at SC and the local residents take action.

that's interesting lucky, what would be your view on combat at SC then? when you say speeds we are chasing what speed do you think DC gives you? generally it's only one loop and a bit of a kick through the shear if you're lucky.

Got a ring from Sean this arvo, very excited saying he was on top of Wild Horse Mtn and it was really powerful DS! He was pretty pumped, reckoned he had the Bird into the 150's (mph). Said it was very clean shear, strong effect. There's a tower at the top that you have to keep clear of, and trees at the bottom which all sounds very scary to me, but he said that it was great and you could really open the circles up. Landing was a bit dodgy. I'm hoping he'll post a report here.

Yeah it was a promising spot! Looking back I think I over-estimated the speed a bit, I doubt I got as high as 150 - it's always so hard to tell without a radar, especially with a new site. Definitely over 100 at least. It was working really well. I'll post a quick report and pics separately.
