quickly last night i had a go at ds'ing on realflight g3. like i said i used the delta wing (+motor) with motor not running, i turned the wind around so it was blowing away from the slope and tried to bring the plane in. i didn't have too much trouble getting it in, but once i went below the level of the hill i was standing on the plane just seamed to all but loose it's speed.
another thing that was quite funny is i was reading comments posted on the realflight discussion board. people were asking if it was possible to DS in RF3. the replys were "what is DS'ing"

in regards to the sss program, how did you get your transmitter to work properly with the program. mine is weird. i'll move up and down on the left stick. but the plane will be moving left and right. and turning left and right on teh right stick but moving it up and down, if that makes sence???
what did u do to fix this?

Hi jase, 150 mph...that is smoking fast!! I just use the keyboard or joystick but there are several control settings. Press C when the simulator is on and then try some of the different control setups. To ds go into the batch files and double click run ds. Try the moth, it seems to ds best. Don't know where to go this weekend? Down here they are calling NW to N for Saturday and SW for Sunday.

i found the c = config menu. but just wouldn't work with my tx. guess the keyboard will have to be the go then. shame there's no callibration settings in the program. i know it's simple though.

Hi all,
Dad and I managed to get out for an hour (or so) of flying at lunch today. I have been waiting all winter for a decent Northerly and today was pretty good. Wind was 15-20 and a tad NNW which is a bit off angle. There are sort of three spots I have wanted to try for ds and today we tried two of them.
First one was excellent. Threw out the reaper and almost immediately got 106 so didn't waste any time and threw out the Opus. Managed to get 158mph! You have to stand on the road edge and ds behind a huge treeline but the air over the back was nice and still. Frontside lift was huge and a speckout would not have been hard.
The second spot was very turbulent but fun. Got 96 with the reaper but they were low, in your face laps. The most amazing thing was 2 wedgetails and a huge seaeagle. For the first time I had a wedgetail grab the plane(!!) and actually held it nose down for about 2 seconds, before letting go!!! My plane weighs 1.6kgs!!!! They would not leave it alone either. I have got to get back there with the video camera. However I need a new one first as the old one died the other day.
Still can't believe I have been driving all over the countryside looking for ds spots all winter, when I had a couple of great spots within a 10 minute drive. ;D
Just waiting for more wind now.

Ezza, sounds like a great day! It'd be nice if you could break your PB at a site close to home. Sounds possible with a stronger breeze.

Ezza, sounds like a great day! It'd be nice if you could break your PB at a site close to home. Sounds possible with a stronger breeze. Yeah, it was great. Especially as the northerlies are our most consistant winds. We usually get quite alot of days stronger than today so it does look promising. I reckon the site could accomodate speeds up to 200. The circle size at 158 was taking up most of the area to ds in but there was a little extra left. I might just have to keep the circles about that size. The other spot you basically have as much room as you like to let your circles bigger with speed. This spot is treeline ds, so you have to do your circles up high in the air which is excellent, but we were having problems with the radar picking it up. It was reading about 1 lap in every 4, as I would wind it up and then shoot it over towards us to get a speed. Dad later walked further down the road where he could read every second lap but then the plane was not coming 'at' the radar gun. This is because the plane is so high when doing laps. This also gives a much slower reading. Might have to put some ugly silver paint on the front of the plane!?! Might have to do a search on RCG.

You are probably aware of this, but it is not just a matter of getting a reading. If the plane isn't coming directly towards the radar, the reading will be slower than what the plane is actually doing.

If the plane isn't coming directly towards the radar, the reading will be slower than what the plane is actually doing. You are right. It is quite difficult to get the plane coming straight at the gun with this new spot, as the laps are so high above the ground. There is a certain angle(usually as horizontal as possible) circuits that produces the best speeds unfortunately it is just a bit too far away for the gun to get consistant readings. I went and looked in the manual to get true numbers; 5 degrees off angle gives a 0.4% lower reading 10 degrees 1.5% 15 degrees 3.4% 30 degrees 13.4% 45 degrees 29.3% 90 degrees 100% Also found a section in there where I can turn up the factory settings and get a higher level of sensitivity, hopefully this works for me. Thanks St!

Ezza you'll have to get a cherry picker crane and tow it along behind you you on your DSing expeditions, and stick your Dad up in the sky in exactly in the right spot to get the best speed. But I'd dress him up in a full face bike helmet and motocross body armour too ... Maybe wrap the cherry picker in nice big soft pink insulation batts too, to soften the blow if the plane hits it ....

Hahaha. Imagine having a cherry picker! Now that would be a real luxury item for ds or flying. If you had a real big one you could ds/fly at all kinds of places!!! ;D Great idea Andrew....have you got one I can borrow?
