Have been looking around for some good foam for vac bagging wings & tails or whatever ,i have found some but the shipping from Sydney could make 2 blocks cost to much. DOES ANYONE WANT FOAM . 40 mm * 600 mm * 2500 mm sheets ? Can get it in 25mm ,35mm,40mm,45mm,50mm,75mm,100mm thick. 40 mm mite be best for wing thickness vs cost unless your wing is thicker than 30 mm then you would have to go with a thicker foam.(the foam has 3mm grooves on both sides) Please show your interest ! price will be $65 plus.(do'nt know yet) Probably get 3-4 planes out of each block depending how big.

Hey Shane, I may be interested. How would it differ to blue foam (eg lighter, heavier, stronger, cuts better etc)? Could it be carved and shaped as nicely as blue foam?
Sean.

We have found that the higher density blue foams don't cut very cleanly with a hot wire, there are small hard lump in it that make the hot wire drag and create corrugations and also burn grooves into the foam. We use 20 to 40 psi blue foam and have never damaged the foam with 28" of vacuum.

Almost ready to order blue foam. PLEASE PM ME. The sheets have 3.5mm grooves on both sides. So wing thickness plus 10 mm should be OK ......just. you can cut these in half thickness wise with a bit of extra work. I will put a final list together Thursday night for Friday. RTM * 25 2500 600 $ 34.80 RTM * 35 2500 600 $ 48.73 RTM * 40 2500 600 $ 55.69 RTM * 45 2500 600 $ 62.64 RTM * 50 2500 600 $ 65.52 RTM * 75 2500 600 $ 98.26 RTM * 100 2500 600 $ 122.83 RTM * 120 2500 600 $ 147.4 This is the price per sheet no postage. (hope the postage is not to costly).

Thanks for that Shane, sounds good!
Steve, there is, but they don't have this higher density "high load" foam.

Just noticed this thread. I have tried a heavier foam than RTM (FP75) (~75psi) and found it does tend to get ripples around the leading edge. I think this is because I haven't yet worked out the optimum combination of temperature and speed. But given that foam is 20% heavier than RTM I haven't serioulsy used it (although thinking of a Supra CP spar). However, I have used FP50 with good effect. This is 50psi foam, not the ~ 60 of Hiload 60 or ~58 of RTM. It is easy to work with, approx the same weight as RTM (maybe a smidgeon - interpretation = tiny morsel - lighter). It is a little bit softer than RTM but this makes it easier to work with the TE's which tend to be more brittle with CNC cut RTM. The main advantage was that it was substantially cheaper when I got some from www.dctech.com.au (once called Aerodynamic Developments) in Western Sydney. Only problem could be in Supra Spars. Easily fixed. Add 1 extra wrap of 1.5oz glass (around the spar) before bagging. Might bend a bit but hasn't broken (yet). ;D Hutton
