I wanted to fly the Ricochet at Woody Point this arvo - the lift was perfect, but it wouldn't range check so I disassembled it and put it back in the car. Hmm. Bummer.
I pulled out the trusty Ozprey and had a good fly, and after a while I was trying to get some DS effect behind various trees on the edge of the rockwall. Finally I got it! There are some smallish cotton trees and she-oaks to the right of the normal flying spot, with level ground behind them. After playing around I got some good laps! It was a great learning exercise. It showed me (again) that unless you keep the plane on a steep bank at the top and pull the top turn positively, you don't accelerate. I did it for ages - maybe an hour and a half. Some of the time I was climbing trees (one of my fins is still in a tree).
I reckon we should have a shrubline DS challenge to see who can get the highest speed there! (I have the gun!). I reckon I was doing, aaaw, maybe 35mph!
Great stuff, gotta go to dinner.
