Will be at the stage tomorrow where I’ll have to program throws/capabilities in. plan is to have ailerons, elevator (cutting edge stuff hey? Lol) ,flaps and most of all snap flaps –flaps are mixed with elevator for aerobatic flight. Question is what sort of degree of movement would be a good starting point for the flaps with snap flap mixing be? Thinking around 15 degrees may be the way to go but only taking a half educated guess! Also planning to use a switch to engage/disengage snap flaps depending on type of flying. Any opinions?
Next idea is to have normal flaps for landing, slowing down and for extra lift. How do others set this up? Do you use the turn type dial or another switch? Is it worth being able to raise the flaps above centre for high speed/high lift moments?
Pretty excited about learning about all this for the first time and testing out the results ;D

Well the maiden happened today and to put it simply it flies great! Got to the cliff late, had a minor scare thinking I lost the model memory, quick range test and stood at the edge of the cliff. Had a few doubts about the CG being safe (just balanced where I thought looked right), the incidence (again what looked right) and no test glides to give any indication but bit the bullet and tossed her off.... From the launch she climbed up like a homesick angel and with a couple of clicks of aileron to counter act a heavy wing we were away -no problems! Quick lap up the slope gaining height easily and a dive for speed showed it to be quite fast even in her current rough state and the controls felt great. So took a couple of minutes to get a feel and started to push it a little. Rolls were ok but needs less differential to be axial, loops and barrel rolls are easy and can be as large and slow as you like, stalls are at a walking pace and a total non event, inverted flight nearly hands off and made nearly no difference to it’s rate of climb. The tail was showing a lot of flex and was causing some issues but that was expected (only mounted solid enough for the maiden in case incidence changes were needed). Later tried some hammerheads, flick rolls, bank and yank turns and basically let loose and was surprised to find this is a lot more aerobatic then I thought she would be. Handed the controls over to both Andrew and knoxy and both were happy with the way she flies. Unfortunately the maiden outing wasn’t without mishap…..second flight I intended to really wring it out when I lost control and it spiralled straight into rocks at the base of the cliff!!!! Walked down expecting pieces and was surprised to find it intact! Only damage to the fiberglass pod that will be an easy fix. Cause of the problem turned out to be a dud battery pack….checked the voltage with the multimeter and it showed 4.8V, then hooked it up to the receiver –result? instant drop to 2.8V. not happy about the prang but feeling lucky about the escape. So next will be decreasing the differential, setting up the snap flaps (looking forward to the results here) and getting the adjustable camber dialed in a little better. Also intend to add a ballast tube as at it still a bit of a floater at the moment. Once all that’s done I’ll tidier up all the draggy bits and add some colour. all in all i'm really happy about this one.....started of as a "what if" and after 3months has evolved into a great model

Hey Felix
That heavy landing of the VEELIX Sunday broke the V-Tail, so when I did the fix I made the Vee 110 degrees, added a little extra nose weight to conuter the repairs.
Test flew at 6.30 lastnight at SC.
Goes well does not snap any more, total weight increase about 150 gms

Hey knoxie, What hard landing, that was merely a half loop, into a snap followed by a fast landing???! Haha sorry bout that one Good to hear the veelix is still alive and still gaining character……are the snaps completely gone tho? Even at 110 degrees I still used to get some heavy wingdrop in the harder manouvres (must admit I do tend to set up tail heavy tho). Look forward to another fly, minus crash, soon. On another note now I have moved further south I am now fairly close to laidley so will be doing a lot more flying out that way.....might be time to build that 5mtr hamiclar soon lol
