Did one of my precision "fence landings" at SC yesterday and broke the carbon wing spar in my Slope Monkey.... where can I buy fiberglass hollow tube from, needs to be app 1m length, app 5 or 6 mm diam. My LHS has none. Cheers.

I'd like to source some too. I'm pretty sure we have a broken lower spar in our first Monkey too. And it wasn't doing any unusual landings! We're building the second one with an extra bamboo skewer short spar. Budget and availability prevented us using fibreglass.

Mikey was that the one where you had some precision combat with the fleagle? As for the tube just after the hornibrook brook bridge there is a kite shop (in the fork in the road?) who will have anything you would want. My 2cents on the spars though learnt the hard way is use solid glass rods. hollow tubes when impacted will break in half where as rod sort of cracks and splits…..all you have to do to repair rod permenately is feed some CA into the break and it is better then new. Rod once snapped generally stays snapped or snaps at the next heavy hit. As for the weight gain I seriously doubt you would notice (maybe even just use 3mm) but the durability added with the ability of rod to “give” in bad prangs you will more then notice My last modded bee I went with rod and never regretted it. The leading edge had a 3mm rod on the leading edge and even after some very high speed direct impacts on rocks/trees/fences the worst I had was some crushing of the rod that once pushed back into shape and CA’d was like new again. Another trick I found that works is shoe goo/goop them in rather then PU. for some reason goo has an amazing ability to absorb shockloads. Just a few ideas from me and hope it helps

If you don't mind ordering it by post, Michael at Kite Magic is great to deal with - check his range: www.kitesite.com.au/components/fibrerods/comp_fibre_rods.htmlI suggest just using 2.4mm FG rods embedded into top and bottom surfaces. Forget the CF - it always breaks. The shop at the north end of the Hornibrook is now Power Kites (I think). They're good but Briskites has a bigger range and they're now at the other end of the bridge at Brighton, near the pawnbrokers.
