I bought a Corona 8 channel synth Rx recently, and stuck it in my Ricochet. The main problem I've heard of with these is is difficulty with locking onto your frequency, but it locked on straight away.
It hasn't been flown yet with this Rx- I've had it on the bench to change the aileron servos. I thought the flap servo was stuffed, as when I pulled full flaps the servo shuddered and it was slow to reach full throw. So I changed that servo, but it was the same. Also the receiver seemed to glitch up (the LED was flashing and servos working very slowly) as if low battery, when the battery was well charged. Changed the battery - seemed better. Then when I was checking it out I noticed other problems, such as the rudder moving off centre when I pull flaps on.
So I took out the Corona and replaced it with another (Graupner 6 channel) Rx, and instantly everything worked perfectly. The servos all worked faster, the flap servo pushed to full flap effortlessly, and the rudder stayed true.
Bummer! Waste of $39.

AVB Dont waste your $$ with the cheaper stuff, its half ok on 36mhz, but buy the better RX's from JR or Graupner. I picked up a couple of these hitec dual con 8 channel, and they are fairly good value. www.rojshobbies.com/Radios.html

I can't believe you'd consider flying a nice model with a $39 receiver Andrew! Those receivers are far more expensive than they look. Take it from an old timer - buy good batteries, radios, receivers, and servos that drive primary controls. It's the cheapest way! (I'm not saying it's a 100% guarantee but in my experience it's been very close to 100%). In 24 years I've only had one JR servo fail dangerously and only one receiver and it was in a bee so it had copped a hammering. I am yet to have a tx failure!
TOUCH WOOD.

Generally I'd agree, and I only have good Rx's in my good moldies. Funny enough however, there is an overwhelming majority of very positive reports about 8 channel Coronas from the US (but I'm not sure if they're the synth version like this one).
Up at Bald Knob, I can fly my Ozprey with its Corona 4 channel with no problems, where some other expensive receivers are having problems.
Anyway I sent it back, and they're replacing it with a new one. They actually sent me a cheap digital ball bearing servo by mistake, and when I told them that they apologised and said I could keep the servo and are sending the Rx! They're quite a nice mob to deal with (WattsupRC)

Andrew, I haven't read the latest on the Coronas for many months now, but I recall the overall drift:
At first, the reports were good. The few bad reports were brushed aside. Then the 36MHz version arrived, and immediately the reports were bad, with a few good experiences from people who wondered what the fuss was about. This was the 4ch verion. Prolems included not locking on at all, or not to certain unspecified frequencies; good ground testing but bad in the air; servos not returning to centre when used with the Corona receiver; etc.
They put out a new improved version to fix the problems, but the reports from 36MHz users remained unchanged.
Added to the majority reports on the crystal version, which were good, most Aust users were saying they wouldn't try the 6ch or 8ch version, but would in the future consider the crystal version only.
My own experiences with 3 Corona synth receivers matched the overall pattern of reports on the 36MHz version, so I won't touch them again.

Bumma. Thanks Pij. I'd prefer the crystal version, but 1) they didn't have it, and 2) it's really hard getting micro crystals for 36.590. If anyone knows where to get them I'd be keen.

I wish i saw this thread on Saturday.
On Saturday i was getting ready to go slope soaring to Rossins lookout at Gold Coast Hinterland. Then i realized my R700 JR Rx on my R72 was playing up. So i quickly ran to the Hobby Shop and asked for a Rx, the 8ch Corona Synth was the only one in stock. So me eager to slope soar again after months bought the receiver. Did all my check and found it to be good.
So threw it of the slope and flew around for about 5 mins. Then all of a sudden i got a glitch and the airplane did an axial roll. As soon as it did that i knew worst was to come, so i set it up for an approach. On final i lost total control and the plane went spiraling into the bush. Recovery was tough and long.
I tried to save a few dollars on the Rx but ended up making more damage to my plane.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS RECEIVER....
cheers, Abdullah...
