Merry xmas fella's, Hope santa brought you all some great prezzys. I got cloths. ha ha I'm looking into making foamies. I need a foam cutter, I was reading somewhere that you can make 1 from a car battery. Would be able to adjust the temp with a fan switch. Anyone found where to get epp foam from too?
Cheers guys Astan

Hi Astan, Plenty of options here... On this group Sean has been through the process and documented some findings. Some people have success with a 12v battery, some use their 12v battery charger. Plenty on rcgroups on making a cutter supply This link has lots of tutorials on foam and foam deltas... www.utahflyers.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=37&Itemid=33Skyboyken has a feature of his modelling battery charger that can power a foam cutter bow. I have even seen mention of people using there standard lipo chargers .. don't blow anything up!! I use a transformer driven by a light dimmer switch. Bow wire choice is importnant. The easiest available is single strand fishing trace "hard" wire - not.... I repeat not.... the softer binding wire. Size .. 16thou Hope this helps cheers jeff

Hey Astan, I found this thread on RCG very helpful: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=628704I've found cutting foam cores to be quite difficult, although it seems that the foam you use makes a difference. Cheap white foam seems quite easy while the 60psi blue foam gave me a lot of trouble. I spent a lot of time stuffing around with power supplies till I got my current one working, and unfortunately it doesn't seem ideal either. It's worth the difficulties though, it's a good feeling cutting cores to your own specs. For a power supply I've read of people using lipos connected to a speed control, and varying the temp by moving the throttle on their tx. Sounds simple and cheap if you already have the right gear. One guy on RCG made a wireless hot-wire this way. I recently bought some EPP off Pete From Wowings. His prices are competitive but it's still expensive, it would be a good idea to cut lots of cores with white foam first. I can give you some help on the power supply/wire if you're interested but having said that I'm probably not the best person to ask as I'm still not consistently cutting good cores. Sean.
