Hey Guys, I gave Jolly's Lookout a go today with the Weasel. Jolly's is up near Mt Nebo and only about 15mins from my place so I've been keen to give it a go for a while. The wind was about 12 knots NE and was pretty much perfect for this spot. The lift was very good, once I got out past a pocket of dead air close in to the launch area. It was possible to fly the Weasel as high as I liked, the only limit being visibility which isn't great with the Weasel thanks to it's small size. I felt nervous the whole time though, there's a high likelihood of losing your model here. There's a fairly small window through the trees so you've gotta be careful to keep the model in sight and away from the tall branches, and if you go down the chances of getting the model back are not good cause it'd probably be in the top of a 20M tree. The landing zone doesn't look great but it's actually very good thanks to long grass and small shrubberies that make even the clumsiest landing a fairly soft one. I wouldn't fly something fast here though, it'd be way to risky. The Weasel was perfect, and I reckon a Bee or Zagi would do well at this spot too, as long as you could throw it hard enough to get into the lift zone above the trees, something that was pretty easy to do with the versatile little Weasel.

Chuckle, good on ya Sean, that's the spirit! Ten years ago you wouldn't think of trying that, with balsa models! What direction will it work in??

I'm guessing the slope faces NNE, so I'd say anywhere from N to NE would work. Yep, balsa would be a big risk here! I don't think I'd risk flying there without a lost model alarm either :-)

WOW. I've literally been there dozens of times on car club runs and would never have thought of flying there. The road is directly underneath?

That's a bit like what my Toowoomba experience was like, but a little tamer

Yeah, the road's underneath I live at Mt Glorious and there are often birds soaring on the slope behind my house so it's always been a little frustrating that there's nowhere to fly up here (too many trees)... Jolly's was pretty cool today, definitely worth a go but I do prefer the close-in, much less risky flying at Shorncliffe (the next closest site to my place, and still 45mins away). If you guys want to fly there give us a yell. It does need a north easter which have been pretty rare these last few weeks. Callun, I've seen the spot you flew from in Toowoomba, looked pretty extreme to me

Fun when you got out there into the lift, but yes, a few tense moments getting there (in case there wasn't any lift when you got out there) and getting back in. But like I said, it was pretty intense lift.
