The weather turned on a smashing time for this years show , plenty of visiting flyers participated, and It was tops to catch up with a few old flying mates I hadn't seen for years, I'm still trying to resist that temptation to get back into gas powered fun. , but they may win yet.. Some of the guys put on sensational 3D displays, and the jets and scale sector captivated the good crowd, a great speed spectacle. Met a very new and comprehensive local parts and kit retailer, Steve Raskin from Simitar Aircraft Downunder, Steve machine cuts EPP wings to whatever plan you come up with, so thats fantastic news for Fraser Coast aeromodellers and slopers. Lets hope we get more guys out at Pt Vernon on weekends in future with a steady and affordable supply of cuts available. Should have a video of one of the jets disintegrating at high speed to put up later, scary stuff Edit, here it is; www.youtube.com/watch?v=hluMx7Zyh7wPoor bloke had a substantial mishap a little earlier in the week, this bird didn't fair much better unfortunately, but luckily it didn't happen on the way to the pits and spectators! Lots of fun for all.

Maaaaaate, that's awesome! Wow! Would have been great to see. Hey tell us more about the guy that cuts wings too. Does he have a website etc? I think there's big potential for getting some foam designs going - simple straight cut wings, that can be built quickly, whack a spar in, and covered with the laminating film.

Hi Andrew, I dont know to much about his cuts just yet, yet to have a good gander at them, he is happy for you to supply the foam you like. The shop is still building an online webstore, but they have a page up already; www.simitaraircraft.com.au/Not sure if he is going to advertise the foam cutting, but he is certainly keen to do it.

You should see the stock Steve Raskin has at his place. Awesome! Some items are priced amazingly low, too. Easy to find his place - drive into Howard, straight through over the railway line, keep straight past the golfcourse then veer right (left says No Thru Road anyway). The road changes name to Martindale Road, then you see the sign on his front fence, you're there.
When I was talking to him, I pushed a few times to get an answer to EPP cutting. His Simitars are EPS with balsa skin - the range includes a slopy! But he didn't really give me a Yes for EPP cutting. Maybe he's had a think about it.
Looks like Susan River was even better than last year!
What was the crashed jet? And that yellow v-tail?

Sorry pij, forgot to say, the yellow hotliner is a Penny Ellipse with a hot donk.
Andrew I was thinking about your words, for some time i've been thinking (hey it does happen, don't laugh!) you know what I would really love to see?- a casual open foamie slope racing class for our smaller coastal slopes, budget orientated, something the Ozprey could fit into and about that size. All it would take is two or three pylons located in the right places, it would give us something to do between combat wing sessions during get togethers.
As the sport grows perhaps something will be realised someday.

Oh, I totally agree Steve! Whenever you set up any sort of challenge, even if it's ad hoc and informal eg flying thru a gap in the trees, it's a hoot. I love it. It would be dead easy to do a pylon race or something. When Gerard took the flags down to Woody Point the 2 of us had a great time and everyone was stopping to watch. We talked about having a comp, eg max number of passes thru the flags in 5 mins, but we've never got around to it. Limbo is a good comp too.

wow that jet (panther?) copped it.....glad i'm not fixing the bill for that.love the sopwith in the last pic! wonder how well that'd slope? lol.
lucky, funny you mention a non competitive sorta pylon race -had the idea and been discussing with mark for quite awhile about a 2 pylon course that has the flyers run a figure 8.would allow for some carnage/payback on the cross over and all turns would be away from the slope for safety.say 60 seconds to launch with no rules whilst awaiting the start signal (combat encouraged) and run however many laps. sort of a madmax,no rules combat race ;D
