Many of you know Alan (Livefibre) from Redcliffe - who's been an enthusiastic supporter of this forum - had a massive brain aneurysm (burst blood vessel in the brain) a week ago and nearly died. He was in intensive care and is now in Ward 8A South at RBH. His wife Wendy just phoned me and it's been a pretty bad week but Alan's talking and recovering. She passed the phone over to him and I chatted with him. He's suffering a lot of head pain and will take a lot of rehabilitation. We were saying that he won't be flying for a while, but I told him I would like to get a radar gun and that he might have to be the chief radar recorder, which got a laugh, which was nice. If anyone has time to visit him I'm sure he'd appreciate it and it would do him good.

I rang Alan yesterday, to see how he's going. I thought he'd be home by now but he only got out of ICU a few days ago. He had several operations to seal up the burst blood vessel in his brain, but it was all done thru one of those long thin scopes that they feed up your blood vessels from your groin, all the way up!
He feels like he's having some memory problems but sounds OK. I said to him the hardest part must be giving up smoking! But he reckons that's not too bad and he has a patch. Hopefully he'll get home soon and I'll visit him, hopefully soon we can put him in the car and take him out for a fly, or at least to watch.

it's called a "stint" isn't it andrew? I'm not a doc but I thought a stent was a thing they put in vessels to hold them open. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StentEither way I hope Alan gets well soon and can enjoy that lovely family of his. Hopefully he'll get out and we can have another go at putting a dent in his jeep.

Just an update guys. I had a call from Alan on Wed night. He'd just been in that day for his big medical tests. They had been saying that the aneurysm didn't look good, that it was leaking and he would have to be operated on, and it was risky.
On Wed they fed the scope wire up from his groin, thru his heart, and into his brain. Unlike last time when he was doped out, this time he was really conscious and able to watch the whole thing! A ring of high definition monitors showing images of his skull, the brain in 3-D and so on. He could see the coils in the aneurysm lump, that were put there before. Then the wire going up, the dye flowing out and so on. They were rotating the view as they worked! Really freaky to watch. Amazingly, a world expert surgeon in this field who was visiting from the UK co-worked on the procedure on Alan that day. It took hours.
But the miracle is that at the end, they told him that it has scarred up nice and solid, and there's nothing more to do. He's in the clear. Pretty emotional stuff.
So I think we can expect a rebound reaction from Alan - he's been under the restriction of staying within an hour from RBH for months (which he's disobeyed on occasion ..) but I'd say he'll soon be out tearing up the sky at Pedwell Rd and elsewhere to make up for lost time!
