I’ve been eager to try out my glow sticks, but with the weather lately it’s been hard to find the chance. But tonight there was a brake in the showers with some clear skies so I gave it a go. It didn’t go that well to start off with but after making several adjustments of the location of the glow sticks I was away. I have one word to some it up - AWESOME! I thought that it wouldn’t be that great because of the lack of visual reference but I forgot about one important thing – the stars! It was really surreal with the strong glowing spaceship and a beautiful starry night, I’m hooked! Below is the top of the plane, I have two long glow sticks on the leading edge and one down the middle. I also have one on each side fin. Just a different colour down the centre for the bottom of the plane. Had no problems flying with this setup (45 minute flight). It was a really different experience to flying in the day time, the back drop of the stars really made it unreal.

Yeppers... its great fun. Next time invite me!! We'll see if we can't get rent a crowd there. Purely by accident we had a couple of mid airs last time out (NYE 2007). All you see is lights going everywhere! I tell you what... all hell breaks loose. LOL ;D ;D

Hey I got a Christmas card from Canuck Engineering, the makers of the Lumberjack etc www.canuckengineering.com/http://www.canuckengineering.com/well worth a look - they have some great stuff, and they're into LED lights on planes. By the way, although called Canuck, and have a Canadian maple leaf emblem, it's actually a Canadian guy who lives in Colorado. ANYWAY !!! Get to the point Andrew. The Xmas card has quite a beautiful Christmassy picture on the front, of a dark nightime scene of a pine tree, with the top lit up with green and red lights and people/ lights etc below. It says "Seasons Greetings ..... Canuck Engineering". Very nice card actually. When you turn it over it has a longer greeting but the small print at the top says: Photo: captured by Gregory Luck (www.lavawing.com) on Williams Peak at the Super 77th Fun Fly (www.super77th.com). Canuck stuck his Predator Bee (www.predatorwings.com) with Canuck Engineering LED setup in a tall pine while attempting to buzz the campfire at midnight.

I don't condone flying while under the influence. It's great fun, and I've had some of my most hilarious moments while flying a model plane. However the results can be unpredictable ;D ;D It's not something I'd recommend at SC

Gerard convinced a few of us to have a go at night flying at Woody Point tonight! It was great! Alan and Gerard had already drawn a bit of a crowd by the time I got there. They'd bought packs of 15 glow sticks for $2 at the discount shop and Alan quickly adorned our Bee with them and I was up and away. I was surprised how easy it was to see. Top fun. Kids had a great time too.
The wind was strong but fairly side on (too south) so the lift wasn't the best and there were enormous rotors if you got behind the trees.
I had a go with the Ozprey too, and initially boasted that it was fine, but I couldn't see the darn thing! The Bees are much easier to see with a glowie stuck to the LE of the winglets! So I stuck more glowies on the Ozprey and it went up OK, but the problem is that as soon as you turn, it points the nose down, drops, and gathers huge speed which was all a bit too much information for my small brain! So after some close shaves I gave up on night flying the Ozprey!

Myself, Aidrian, Callun and Bill are going out tomorrow afternoon. The forecast is for a strong SE so it will be "death corner". Since these tend to persist after dusk well as long as the rain holds off we're going to have a F&C and then break out the glow sticks If you want to join us just turn up or give me a call 0429 696 476.

Watch the forum - I'll do a status update before i head out. If it looks rainy call or sms me if it looks rainy. If it's raining i doubt it will happen. I'd hate you to travel there for nothing.

Still havent tried this, have fun folks if its on. It would be nice to see some photos of them in the air but getting a decent exposure would be impossble i reckon. Long exposure on a tripod would look super interesting, yeah that would be the go. Pretty much becalmed up here on sunny coast.
