Well, it was interesting alright! I'd bought some more expensive glowies ($1 per pair kinda price range), rather than the $2 pack of 30, so mine were actually visible when I only put 3 or 4 on, whereas Steve put his on, and the plane sailed into the darkness and became invisible basically. After an interesting retrieval, it was off with the crap and on with some decent ones. Bill put some rubbish ones on and had some trouble flying too, so down he came and the same thing. Mine was easy to see - no troubles - and we experimented with having the big fluoro on or off, and then Steve cracked out his big spotty, and I flew a few laps with that on my plane, and did a catch too. Though credit where credit's due - Steve did a catch in the dark by nothing but glow sticks! The lift was pretty nice, and the weasel went pretty well in the dark. Hard to see though

Yep, good fun night. Definitely don't waste your money on the cheap glowsticks. I've never caught a plane at night before so that was a first. The conditions were pretty much perfect with a nice E. It dropped a little at times but mostly was just nice and smooth. You don't really want big conditions at night as landing is hard enough during the day!

Cracking forecast. Weather looks good. Got glowsticks packed and heading now. Will fly... harden arteries and try the night winds Sunday until midnight: SE winds 15/20 knots

Here are a few photos of the night flying session at Shorncliffe last night!‘Twas a great crowd and a great atmosphere. Could have done with a few more knots of wind, but no complaints! It was for me a new experience, sliding down the cliff with a dim torch gripped between the teeth, to retrieve a plane. But certainly no problem locating it with all the glowsticks! Gerard, Alan, Matt and I want to get everyone over to Woody Point for a night fly. We reckon it’s better for night flying in a SE to E. Skyboyken getting his dark stealth raider set up for a mission. Bill, Mike, Joelan pretending they know what they’re doing. They’re all looking for the sticky tape to stick more glowies on. "Fire the flash again Andrew, I think I saw it!!" A few planes on the ground. I tried to get pics in the air but even on ISO1600 the exposure was about 3 seconds! Too dangerous! You can’t stand still that long, for fear of getting hit! The soldiers at Dunkirk were safer than the spectators were last night! Steve checking his plane before launch. “Wow, it’s already flying! Oh, no, that’s right … Callun’s holding it up”. Callun launching Steve’s Duck. I know, I know, they’re a public menace, those two. Someone should stop them flying. I tried to get them out of the air by standing in front and blocking their view with my Bee, but after a couple of minutes when they they realized the plane they were “watching” wasn’t responding, and they heard their planes hitting Alan's Jeep, they quickly twigged to what was going on.

although i had to leave early due to crappy glowsticks was definately good fun while it lasted! getting hit by a weasel with a headlight whilst retriving someones wing in pitch black near the water was a laugh.....thought it was someone walking towards me in the distance with a torch!!! haha definately woke me up that ;D seems the spectators got a good show too. ......so who's window got smashed? hope the resident didn't get to upset.

Thanks for pics Andrew, looks like a very interesting time! As for the sound of things smashing, Callun and you look like pretty fit fellows with good shoes, I can picture Steve standing there wondering where you went suddenly.

Sorry guys, I was just kidding, there were no smashed windows! I'll edit that bit to "hit Alan's Jeep" which seemed to be happening a fair bit!

I don't recally hitting Alans Jeep, but that doesn't mean I didn't do it! I know Bill did earlier! It was a great afternoon and night. I think we had 8 planes with glowsticks in the air at one point. Madness. I asked a couple of spectators what they though and they thought it was "amazing and beautiful".

Spectators are constantly amazed that they're only made of foam and tape. It started off pretty ideal, but I soon became highly in demand for my launching services. Oh, and that was me that hit Al's jeep but only the wheel. Mind you, I had to surgically remove the wingtip from the wheelarch.
