Yes I'm in ;D Will go out and get some winch practice with Ken on Thursday. Now we have to get Shane onboard! Anybody want to be a sponsored flyer?Your chance to have a taste of thermal comp with a low stress supportive team? I have my perennial club glider (2.8m vac bag thermal trash) model for loan - been known to make an old crusty thermal soarer look good on occasions . Good safe way to have a go at comp. Shane used it in his last comp. I have a spare winch. Send me a PM for details cheers jeff

Hi Jeff, I'm definately in. It is the only comp within 3hrs of where I live. I need to get some line for my winch. Is the club still getting a bulk order? Also want to get a good battery. I could just pinch the one out of the tractor, although it might be a little large. ;D Eric

We are going to do some tests on the Model Flight line and then decide - initial impressions look good. I purchased a new winch battery from Dave at airstike at the Armidale comp ($150) - I tried to source the same battery here in Brisbane from the rv people and they were much more expensive. Sailplane Australia shows the typical batteries being used - just need somebody with battery contacts to source them here in SE Qld. cheers jeff

jirvin in relation to the winch batteries i sell discount auto spares and may be able to source them.just need the dimensions,CCA rating and type of battery used. That would be very useful Here are some candidates Delkor Puma 790CCA winch battery. I got one of these from Airstrike for $150 in January 2008 www.rc-sailplane.com.au/accessory_detail.php?accID=49Supreme [USA] Hummer battery 800CCA www.rc-sailplane.com.au/accessory_detail.php?accID=50The is a maximum size to meet the rule specifications example..Case Dimensions. Case dimensions [excluding terminals] in mm are: L = 258 W =172 H = 182 Giving a total of 612mm, well under the MAAA requirement of 625mm. I expect you will be able to do better than the RV suppliers here in Brisbane who wanted well over $200 for this type of battery. cheers Jeff

over $200!!? yeah fair to say i can do alot better than that at first glance but i can see why they are so expensive (high CCA for case dimensions)......what type of battery would you prefer? lead acid, sealed or marine deep cycle.my guess is a normal lead acid would last out a day and be alot cheaper but care must be taken when transporting so maybe a battery box would be a good idea

They are calcium which I think means they are sealed. Did some research before taking the no brain approach and buying what was suggested. Some lads still use the normal lead acid but i had pretensions of grandeur and wanted to use what the big boys suggested. So if you have some battery contacts see what you can get either of the listed batteries for? cheers jeff
