but not out. Got the Slope Monkey all dialed in and went to SC bout lunch and 12-15 kts. Flew the monkey for half an hour then upped the rates and put it into some fast dive n loops....then the wings looked funny. Landed it and.....3 breaks in the top spar . It is only about 3mm and I was a bit sus about it when I put it in ( and another on the wing bottom). Went home and did a quick patch up, but that broke also, so for those building a monkey, consider something with more beef.

That sounds very bad. What weight was your Monkey?
edit: I read your other post. 14oz. I'm hoping ours at 10-ish or less might avoid that problem.

Yea. put in a 4xAA battery pack instead of a AAA. Also, I am a shoddy builder!

Guys, dead set, consider using thin fibreglass rod. Sure, it's not a simple slit and push the ribbon in, but it's really easy to do. Trace both sides of the rod with a pen, then cut a V channel, push the rod in and dribble CA over it and massage it with a bit of plastic. The glass rod will probably never break and it still really stiffens the wing. I've given up on flat spars for wings - even the 8 x 0.8mm ones crack too easily.

In my experience I’m 100% with Andrew! Round solid FG is the way to go.For my modded bee I used used 3mm for the leading edge (not a real good idea at SC),6mm upper compression spar,3mm lower tension spar and a hardwood trailing edge and even after some absolutely horrific stacks not a single break! For the little monkey I think a 3mm upper and 2mm lower spar would be plenty! Adds bugger all weight and the wing would be rock solid (and fly even better!)…could even leave the original spar in place and just cut another groove behind it. By the way beautiful little model there mate and what a great flyer to boot

OK. Have just added a hollow 5mm carbon tube from tip to tip. Glued in with Gelgrip contact cement ( as it was the best in test pieces I did). You are right Felix, it is a beautiful little model and this should make it buttetproof. The wt isnt an issue as it flies great in its 'porked-up' condition.
