how heavy is too heavy guys? my PSS zero is at the stage where it's been brownpapered,bogged,sanded,sprayed,panelled and weathered and it now wieghs 450g almost complete.i have the servos, spinner (full of lead ),pilot all fitted and it is only missing a reciever and battery pack.i expect it to come out at around 550g and it has a 209sq inch wing area......is this going to be practible as a sloper?

....one other thing is that brown paper and pva is awesome if the time is spent on sanding,it really seems like the lazy mans fireglass!!! amazing strength gain,fairly light and looks great.i only used a single layer with reinforcement around wingroots,nose etc.really feels and looks like a glassed model and i really didn't go to any great length to sand it dead smooth (it's a warbird afterall lol).only put on two coats of auto spray putty with sanding in between. see how it handles wear and tear and i'll do a 3 layer cover on my own design wing i reckon ;D

Hi Felix, how ya going? My PC9 has about 309sq inch of wing area and is 620g. It flies great in heaps of lift. It needs 15 Knots at least on a good vertical cliff of say 10meter. It suffers in the lulls, just falls out of the sky. But when it is on it is great. I am coming up that way 31May If the wind is favourable it would be good to go for a fly . Nigel

I've never flown a modern PSS sloper, but I would certainly like to. I wish you could post pics Felix. I've been contemplating a P51 PSS model for this year, a Zero and P51 in the air at the same time, that'd be cool. From what I can gather they are not as profile slippery as our other gliders so hense the need for a bit more lift than usual. Like I said I've not flown one but that doesn't sound to heavy to me. My balsa and tissue indoor Zero is a porker!! needs a bigger motor.

lucky in response to your p51 venom makes a p51 with servos for only $50!! also i finally i have pics,it wieghs 560g at the mo and just needs a few finishing touches and then it'll be ready for a test flight. also i wieghed my bee (finally got myself some scales) and it came out at a whopping 870grams!! amazing that it stays up in as little as 8knots at SC and also explains why any wind below 15knots it really flies like a pig....soon to resurrect my poor lightwieght bee for those lighter days i reckon! here the zero pics: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=864773&page=2post number 30

I finally weighed my Duck, after pinching the scale's battery back from the kids' hovercraft - but it was flat - got another one.
Anyway, 524g. I thought somewhere in the 600's so that seems pretty good. Have to check the manual for the expected weight.
Edit: It wasn't in the manual. The wowings website says:
* Wing span: 1200mm. (47 in.) * Typical flying weight (standard servos): 680g. (24oz.) * Typical wingloading: 22 g/dm^2 (7.2 oz/ft^2)
So I'm WAY underweight. I think I need it that way as I usually fly it in less air than it is probably meant for. I'll just have to learn to live with the side-effects of that. It's probably why my loops are so slooooww. I might try ballast when conditions pick up and I'll see what difference it makes. But seeing how it's underweight and seems to suit my conditions, helps me to decide not to go the heavy path with servos. I'll use the 65HB's when they arrive.

Anyway the panelling looks great!

pij that is really light! i had my first modded bee under 500g and it eventually evolved into a great lightwind and aerobatic flyer.pity that wing had such a bad ending lol.
lucky it's based on the j.i.n scheme that was actually white i believe.looking at period photos of the time a white aircraft doesn't stay that way in a tropical warzone lol.it's my first attempt at a scaly and doubt it will be my last ;D
