I have just purchased a UFO covering iron from Modelflight. Cost $60.
I have been using the clothes iron to date which worked well but decided to try a specialised tool.
The iron is German design, made in Asia. The construction is very good - looks the part.
The blurb on the box says computer heat controlled, what ever that means. I couldn't find the optical drive anywhere.
I turned the iron on and set it to 250F. I was putting profilm over EPP. To check the temperature I used an infrared thermometer. When the green light came on to indicate it was at operating temperature the IR thermometer read 250.7 degrees!!!!! There must be a computer in there some where.
I used it to put film on the FSD Raptor 60 I am building and have to admit it was heaps easier and better that with the clothes iron.
