met up with mike and mark today to maiden the racer and all did not go so well: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=878898&page=4#post10048610great looking crash but an easy and quick repair job.day wasn't a complete loss though, got to see marks queen bee all refurbished (looks great and still hard to get over the size of that wing) but unfortunalety there was no wind.also got to watch marks stryker tearing up the sky in impressive style.that thing is seriously quick and took on a tree at speed and lived to tell the tale.

A bit nasty after all that work. Where was the CG? How much downthrust did it use? Might be an idea to do some glide tests into thick grass while the gear is off. I noticed you use a gearbox with the inrunner. That looks interesting. What gearbox is it?

hey yeah bit nasty but sh*t happens and it'll be like new with 15mins of work the COG i have set at 55mm (60mm recommended) and the motor stick is glued solid in the foam on these, does appear to have alot of down/right thrust already and it didn't noticably pitch down when i chopped the power.oscillations i don't think were caused by either of these things i don't think, just seemed to need a fair bit of up trim that i couldn't dial in quick enough. will be doing some glide tests this arve ready for a fly tomorrow, expect her to fly well once it's all sorted.

The gearbox assembly is a GWS 350-C i believe, which is a 12T pinion (motor) and a 64T spur to the drive. Of course, you can change them to whatever you want, but that's how mine came.

making some good progress with the zero's flying qualities now: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=878898&page=4out of 6 "flights" i have had 1 crash and 4 mishaps.good result so far so with a bit more practice flying and tuning it i'll get her finished. callum did you play aroung with the g/box ratios and prop sizes at all? if so find out anything interesting? also do you know a good local supplier of the gears?

My first flight, I busted the gearbox and prop, and I found an online website which went offline, but I was told they sold on their stuff to RC Hobbyboy and they've gotten stuff in for me that they didn't carry in regular stock before, can take a while though. I couldn't source a 64 tooth spur gear at first, which I think increased the output RPM slightly. I also played around with props a little, I couldn't source a 10x8 prop, so I went with a 10x4.7, which was considerably slower, but the slightly faster RPM may've compensated for it. To be honest, I never really got it flying very well, due in part to CG and the fact that every time I crashed, I probably half destroyed its flying characteristics.

bit of a shame about your zero but unsurprising, far to fragile out of the box.may have to look at making a metal geared box by the sounds of it or turf the combo for an outrunner.i also have some 10x4ish props that i have yet to test but i think this think will definately need a 11x8 or 9. do you still have your zero at all callum if so want to flog it off cheap?

Still got it, it still flies. RC hobbyboy sell the gearbox combos - the GWS 350-C I believe. I've been toying with the idea of putting the outrunner from my Seether - this outrunner - on the zero, but I fly neither of them presently, so it's kinda a moot point. It'd be crazy funny though!

not sure how big/powerful that motor is but looks like more than a small upgrade!!! cackle madly, fit it and fly it on sunday i reckon! (picture a 3d zero tearing past mikes new stryker lol)
.....i keep chuckling thinking of you holding the model whilst the prop and motor combo heads skyward ;D

Well, doing pre-flight checks with it, I would point the nose of my seether into my stomach and hold it, and do a throttle check. It would quite nicely push firmly into my belly until I turned it off.
When I first built it, I showed my mum at the dinner table - full throttle was like I'd just turned a leafblower on in her face.

Those Seethers are pointy nosed, aren't they? Are you sure that's a good idea, pointy nose Seether to the belly on WOT? Could get messy...

At the time I was 20kg heavier! hehe
Yeah, pointy nosed, but nothing seriously dangerous about it. Wouldn't want to take a hit from one in flight though!
