This waiting around for a new kit to arrive can be tough on a man. Today while shopping for responsible grown up things i was surprised to suddenly find myself fronting the counter of the local hobby shop with a handful of random items. When i got home and laid them out covertly it began to make more sense, there was a lifty looking 800mm wing thing, a 1.5 metre long pool floaty EPE tube, a balsa sheet, thin little carbon tube pushrods. Radio stuff and micro servo's can go into holes cut into the foam front fuse for cg balance, the stick rear fuse extender thing is a lightweight CF target arrow. It should be light! Fun light air only i guess that keeps me happy for now. Edit; epe tube not epp.

Tuned its static glide behaviour late this afternoon and it behaves nicely over a 20m straight line launched into a 6 knot breeze. Tomorow arvo will sort out pushrods, fuse coverings and whatever else comes along. Whole thing including wing and rods comes to 254 grams so far. I am building this small light wind alrounder for my father to fly when I see my folks once a year or two, so no doubt it will always be a work in progress to improve it.

Actually, I am really peeved at the moment. This morning before I left home i turned the radio on and fiddled with the sticks... nothing happened. Went through the whole recieving end with a multimeter and it seems the JR RS70 reciever has gone brain dead. Typical, i am having one of those months where everything is going wrong. Has anyone heard of these scanning Rx's failing to function at all. Luckily model sports are being really good about it and will swap the thing. On the bright side the Bee kit and carbon fiber extras arrived today, so i am thankful for small mercy's.

Hi Atmosteve,
I have used several RS70's and never had a problem. I have smashed them into the ground at over 100mph(sorry st), and still no worries.
Is the light on, at the back of the reciever? I think you have to hold the reset button in for 3 seconds, then wait two seconds and just press it again. Do this with the transmitter on. The light will flicker as it searches for the signal and then it should stay on.

Hi Eric, no light, no signs of life other than the servos giving the usual little jig when power is switched on.
have been through the scanning process a number of times paying attention to timing, no luck. David at the shop says he has seen this only once before, i hope it is still not working when he gets it!

I've got two RS70's and one fails to operate intermittently. My guess is that it is a power connection somewhere. If it works it works, but sometimes I plug the battery lead in and nothing happens.
Reminds me that I better get it looked at before the yr warranty is up.

If you get stuck, just remember that you can now get Corona 4 channel synthesised receivers, full range, for $35 from www.rc-sailplane.com.auThey're extremely small and take mini crystals. Selling heaps and no problems, apparently.

I am practising the art of suspense callun, you cant give away to much too soon with such a hot rocket.. No, truth is I have some radio issues , replacement Rx should be back this week so the Bee can be maidened somewhere next weekend. Andrew's suggestion of the Corona reciever was right on the money, after asking questions we decided to buy one as a match to that JR 4 channel tx. Thankyou for that link. So will maiden them together if all goes well and take some photos of them pre-carnage. In the meantime, imagine this wobblystatic hanging from the ceiling is hovering in a lift zone..

Have you flown this dang thing yet?! Get it airborne already Hi again sorry to follow up so late on this novelty project, weather has held up a slope maiden for the wobblymatic nodrog special.. ;D Basically did this plane for a laugh, glad i did. Took the wee beastie to PV north today and flew it in no more than 6-8 knots, usually 3-4, and it really flies like a dream, would handle 15-16 knots well enough, a real trainer style that flies itself and responds predictably to any control inputs, a very smooth and sweet handling plane. hand it to a stranger anytime to fly. With only a rudder though, you arent going to set the world on fire obviously... but loops, great barrel rolls and other ele/rud manouvres it can do with the best of them. It stays up in nothing too. Putting in an alloy arrow shaft tail boom improved it out of site, I broke the CF one while zooming about with a 380 brush pusher motor strapped to it, so its only semi-wobbly now and tougher. my dad had a quick fly, reckons he will play with it on his grey nomad travels. You see it had to be quite small, light, loadable, fun (would be with ailerons) so he could store it while on the road caravaning, there was just nothing any good on the market so i made this. Gordon will try it out frontside on suitable locations as they go, it would be nice if he reported how some new slopes looked and felt on my folks travels (hint). Sorry about the low quality pics, tried to clean them up with Neat Image.
