G'day guys, great forum you've got here! I'm getting back into the scene after a few years away. I realised I still have a mini-weasel still new in box to build, need some advice on a few things. 1. I need a Rx, are these any good? www.rchobbyboy.com/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=516www.rchobbyboy.com/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4832. I want to make up a battery pack using Eneloop batteries, what configuration would give me the best results. Keeping in mind its a Mini version? Plans call for 1/3AA 4.8V flat pack, not sure what I need to achieve this but I want to use Eneloops' 3. Are any of the guys here flying one? Cheers.

Hi vanders, welcome aboard. I have the bigger Weasel, fun plane on coastal sites. The Corona receivers are really good, everyone who has one seems to love it - I have an RS610 and am very happy with it. Aparently the synthesised ones are better left alone, can be a bit iffy, go with the old fashioned crystal-equipped ones.
If you want to use Eneloops you'd absolutely have to use the AAAs in a plane that light. Four cells would be the go. AAAs would do the job well, I have non-eneloop AAA nimhs in a number of my planes.
Sean.

Cheers. the mini weasel is no longer available, nice work to have one still to build. there's a petition going on rc groups fourm to get them started again but it's not getting much air time. I'd really appreciate it if you'd list the specs if its not too much trouble. would like to try a scratch build of one. what a great plane to just have in the car for those workdays where you just happen to be driving near a hill. a few weasels around and glenn is talking about releasing a version of the mini weasel called the wasp. it's still under wraps. cheers Dave

"a few weasels around"
waddya mean??? They're everywhere! The place is becoming infested with them! I think they're a bit like the Cane Toad, where they have no natural predator in Australia, and they're taking over! (or like the Possum in NZ).
The problem is so serious, Mortein has started producing a Weasel-cidal spray and I'm getting some to take over to SC next time. But it's not so bad over there - Bill's pretty good at knocking them out of the air, so it keeps the numbers down.

With the Weasels, a big ingredient to why they fly so well are the custom aerofoil sections that Michael Richter designed. Also low weight is key. A guy who flies up here a lot (Maury) built his own from scratch but it's a bit too heavy, doesn't fly quite the same I reckon. Not sure what aerofoils he used.
Sounds like Michael Richter spent a lot of time developing the Weasel so IMO it's worth buying a kit from him. Always good to support the designer, without him there'd be no Weasel at all.

Mtmellum, thats exactly the reason I first bought it, its been sitting in my cupboard for around 4 years. What specs exactly are you after?
I have only just glued the two wing halves together.
Interested to see if Michael bows to the pressure to re-release the model......

What Sean said!
There are lots of Weasel knock-offs around and none of them fly as well as the original.
FWIW Michael Richter is a good guy, he gives great service (I bought an Alula from him) and I think he charges a fair price for a great design which is really well kitted.
Not everyone deserves support. I believe Michael does.

The Wasp that we are developing is NOT a Weasel knock off! The only thing that it has in common is it's 30" wingspan.

Hi Vanders i actually sent Michael an email last night asking him the same question, and he says he has too much on his plate to re-release the mini weasel but he may in the future. And with the whople weight issue with the weasel peo i really haven found a problem, i recently built 2 and one is 450g and the other is 495g and the heavier of the tooo actully flies better, im not sure about the weight of the mini weasel but im sure if it is a little bit overwight and set up correctly it should fly fine.
Cheers Matt

They're the best nimh's i have used for some time for a number of applications. Maybe a how-to thread on soldering your own Rx battery pack might be useful somewhere... Stick to the non-synthesised versions of the budget Corona Rx units is my own very brief experience, my dad is still waiting for a repacement on his faulty Corona 4ch scanning Rx unit from the retailer.

I'm keen to have a mini weasel and its from your comments on rc groups i've heard you're developing a slope the same sort of size. Keen to see it out from under those wraps you're keeping on it. The mini-weasel is not offered anymore and I'm not trying to cut Michael out of anything, actually want him to bring it back. I also want a weasel and I'll buying it from him or his distributors. I agree 100%. there is no room in this sport for rip offs or knock offs. look forward to hearing that the mini weasel is back, the wasp is a goer and that my wife will let me buy more planes. cheers
