Well i have been going for rides along the Deception Bay Coast line and i have found a couple of nice slopes that give allot of lift at times....most times if there is a decent 8knots and even 5 knots you can fly them with a combat wing like a Bee or a Duck maybe....havn't tried my duck there yet but i am hoping to get it in the air soon ;D i have just maidened my own creation the "Hammer" which is a 2.2m built up wing with a carbon Kevlar D-box wing with dihedral in the wings and will be in pics posted on my photobucket. The fuse is all hand carved by me out of balsa wood and is all custom built by me besides the wings...i bought them off of a friend which they are off a high performance electric glider......didnt need to add any lead or anything or no import control corrections, Straight and level from the word go ;D ;D ;D
Well anyway back on topic,
There are two sites that i have found that work really well There's one just down the road from the deception bay libary...the slope is on Captain cook parade and where you fly is off of the steps,,,there is a 50m or so patch of grass by 4m wide or so is where the big lift is and off to your left is some mangroves and you can flyover them easily and use lift off of them as-well but basically you can get lift the whole entire coastal steps in a E and also NE to North....many wing conditions.
Now with this site is that you have to be carefully as it has a main pathway behind where you fly so combat is ruled out but when there is nobody around then you could do it ;D The way to Land is catch, on the grass or the safest is land in the sand....saying that you have to fly there at low tide in the afternoon or in the morning, so if you try to fly there with the tide in....it might be hard to keep your glider to go for a swim if your good enough you would be Able to fly when the tide is in but very risky
OK the other site is on Esplanade street...the site is the similar to the other site bu has no trees behind you but a houses...sort of like SC and the slope is a gradual slope and has no stairs so the lift is abit better here and i have pics so you know what i mean ;)I have flown here a couple of times and i can say WOW!!!
There i lift everywhere and at sometimes when the wind is low around 2 knots you can still fly which is kool but you have to really use your skills and really us the lift well and is usually flying about 50cm from the top of the steps but it is still flying and is very much fun...Allright, the wind directions are he same as the other site but i think a SE might work as well but i don't know ye as haven't flown there in it yet!!!
here is when the Fun starts to really get fun ;D When the wind is around10-15knots this site really shows it potenial...Lift is as good as SC and you can do aerobatics like jumping over the plane and all of those are really easy as you stand on the edge of the slope and there is nothing to get in your way as like SC has....and this site is alot safe then the last as it doesnt even have half the people walk by but you do get the occasional person and car...The locals there on the front love to watch and regularly come out to watch ;D
If you have any questions to ask me my number is 0449183416 and you can contact me anytime for drections or some more info ;D ;D ;D
