Hi Guys, sorry haven't been online for a bit, oh, other than posting the Shadow price drop in the 'Market' section, nice value. Been a wee bit busy, moved up to Toowoomba, the project at Boeing finished and we thought the family needed a break from the nut house of Brisbane. lol So, we are on the south side of woomba, about 5 minutes from TARMAC, which is great for me. Have a few things to finish off, the Sagitta XC, ASH26, ASW27 and my other smaller projects, too many to list. Looking forward to doing some aerotowing up here as well. I have to comment on Shaun's project, awesome, only if i could build like that! Nice work mate.
Anyway, I was a bit hesitant to post this, this isn't intended to make money for myself or boost traffic in anyway, so don't take it out of context. With offers like this, people like smoke you and think you are after something. So i've sat on it for a while thinking if i should or shouldnt.
I have a heap of bandwidth and space going to waste on my commercial server each month. I have 5 x 2000mb accounts to give to fellow windsockers, so if you need some space to run a photogallery or your own website, just drop me a line via my email or PM. You can do what ever you want with them (no naughty stuff) and they a MySQL database with each one there own cPanel control panel. The only thing you will need is a domain (.com or .net) so i can connect it up to.
No other catches or hoops to jump through, just an offer to anyone who wants it. Please keep this within windsock as it is only offered here.
Cheers Steve

Not that i am in the need for such a thing it is just great to see such generousity. While everybody is trying to screw you over for their own gain, it nice when someone comes by and simply gives not wanting anything in return. well done.

Steve, Please excuse my ignorance. I am virtually a computer illiterate. Is there any way that the "Windsock" site could make use of your great offer to make the posting of pictures on this web site more user friendly. By more user friendly I mean similar to "RC Universe" or "RC Groups". At present we have to find another site to host the pictures and then link our " Windsock" post to the other site. This should be a seamless operation without the "Windsock" poster having to find another host. It took me several days of intensive study to master the "Windsock" system. I still have to read the instructions each time I want to post an image here. This tells me that the present system is not user friendly. Then again, I am a dinosaur left over from the pre-computer era. Perhaps it is up to me to catch up with the times and lighten up.

Hi guys, Thanks for the comments. Graeme, yes, I can do that, There are a few ways we could go, one would need the permission from the admins here and create a brand new forum that can run like rcgroups.com or two, i could install a gallery application to host image files. I guess it depends on the owners of windsock would like to do with it or if they are happy to leave as is.
Mike, some awesome spots up here to fly, found one the other day at Gormans Gap. I'm a little busy up until the end of march, but after that, look out, flying and building no stop.

Steve, that's brilliant mate, very good of you.
Wow! didn't know you'd moved to Tmba! Amazing. We lived there for a while and love the place. Good on ya! And best wishes to you and the family.
The "owner" if there is one, of Windsock is Gerard and I've just given him a call and he'll respond to you. His username is "Windsock".

Hi Guys, Sorry but I've been off line for a long time. My little girl has kept me busy and we're due for another girl in May. I started the website: www.windsock.net.au & the forum several years ago and since then it's really taken off. When I had the time I loved designing the site keeping it fresh with updates. There was a time that I put heaps of work into the website but I simply don't have the time anymore. This is what I would love to see: - The website & forum under the one address not separate sites. - A bit like www.slopeflyer.com/soaring/- A CMS (content managment system) site would be good, where people can join, upload photos, write articles & make posts. The windsock hosting is up very soon so I would like to discuss it with you Steve. Cheers, Gerard

Hey Boys, Von, Gerard Yes, its been a while, sorry, i thought i mentioned the move to you Andy? I talked to so many people about it, I lost track of who i chatted to. lol Yes, I agree, top place, I love the cloud cover in the mornings and the crisp clean air, awesome!
Gerard, I think i spoke to you a while back about the site, but i was just passing on some space for fellow windsockers. I'm all ears if you want to approach a new look for windsock, didnt really expect to get this far into it, but i'm up for a challenge. Sounds like a great little project! I don't mind spending a few $$'s to what you suggested above, some CMS apps are free and we could maybe investigate those. Drop me a line on the email or we can throw some ideas around on here, what ever works, count me in.

Steve, if there are costs involved I don't mind helping out - only fair since I'm one of the biggest users.
(hey, that rhymes with "Biggest Losers", but there's no significance in that. I'm sure there isn't. Also I don't mean PHYSICALLY the biggest user, although my middle has been expanding since quitting cycling and going from about a million megajoules of energy output a week to the current 1.5 microjoules a month. What I mean is I spend more time writing stuff that one or 2 guys read, than almost anyone else).
ANYWAY, back to the point (ADHD is a pain!) ... this could be good. I guess one issue is that if we swap to a new forum system, we'd lose all the history in this one. Is there any way around that? There's some good info in here.

Andy hahaaha, i'm on the other end of that scale, I have the Port Iron man in march, training like a dog, 5 & 6 hours on the bike, hours in the pool and running..... Toowoomba is not nice for riding, windy and hilly.
I think this forum is a flat file, i'm pretty sure i researched it a while back and all the data can't be exported, which is a pain, it runs from cgi. If you want to make this forum and its data available and move to a new one, there is no reason we cant make it run locally on a server. Just a bit of manipulating ;-)
I'll have a look to see what CMS and forum software is available and see what option there are for this forum content.

Yep, a quick google on proboards, The suggestion is to lock the old forum so you can still read it, but post new items into a new forum. So basically have the proboards as an archive. All the threads i read say the same thing, no export options for the data. ;-(

I've spoken to Gerard and Andrew concering some improvements about the windosck site, both have been open to combining the two closer together (forum and main site). I think everyone bypasses the main page and head straight towards the forum, i know i usually do. Anyway, i've started on some basic ideas and made them reality that people can see and give feedback. So if you have a spare moment and would like to provide some feedback or suggestions, head over to windsock.portfoxdesign.net to view the suggestion i'm pacing towards the administrators. Some of the key benefits for users are: Intergrated Forum Pictures upload facility in forum Articles entered directly into the site (admin approved) One login facility (forum and main site) User URL submission To be added: Photo gallery Calendar You can also directly email me if desired: steve@portfoxdesign.com Steve

Steve, I just logged on for the first time and check it out. Wow, you've got it looking very "Windsockish".
It looks good. Can we post anything yet? I tried a new topic but it is still thinking.
The hard thing will be one day we'll have to totally switch off from the old Windsock and all start looking at this one!
Well done, Andrew
