My RAM3 turned up from the States today, so will be good to get some hard data on different launch settings, bungee thicknesses etc. G'day Mike, I'm keen to hear your experience with the RAM3 (and anyone else's experience too). I've been toying with the idea of using one to optimise the Sniper when it's finished. www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?p=13538544 David

David, I have one, works well. You are welcome to borrow it to see what its like. Once you get used to driving the software you can "see" a lot of things going on. I also have an RC Electronics T1000 Vario/Logger that does a similar thing but with voice as well.

The Ram3 with lipo, usb adaptor, software etc was $142 aus posted. Had software installed and unit working within 10min. All looks simple and sturdy and very small.

Got out late this arvo in cooling air and less than ideal bungeeing weather (5kts) at BR with the Escape. Powered up the Ram3 and spent bout an hour. Absolutely NO lift, but sink only in a few places. Here are the initial results from the 4 flights- 1. 570ft launch/10min flight 2. 640ft launch/ 8min " 3. 670ft " /6min " 4. 580ft " /4min "
So am sure I can easity get over 700ft (230m) launches with 10-12kts. Easy to see how the cooling evening air affected cruise flight at min l/d. Hope to get out a couple of times this weekend if the weather-gods look favourably upon me. Now that Garth has gotten out of gliders, I am going to have to get Thevon ( and anyone else with a towhook) enthused again!!

PS. This unit is sooooo easy to use, as is the software. The maker, Randy, of 'SoaringCircuits' was very easy to deal with also!

Mike, when I get something to fly I'd be happy to join you, I just live at Boondall. I could see the RAM3 for myself.

David, you are most welcome. I would look forward to the company. Went to BR today with the Pike Superior... and the RAM3 loaded behind the battery checker.... As it is only small (this is unit+lipo in foam) It didnt change COG much. Conditions were 10kts gusty n-e with little thermal activity, in fact I only got over launch-height on one flight out or 6. To backup my faith in bungee launching, but not my thermaling ability, the data is- 1. 640ft launch /3:24* 2. 630ft launch /8:33 3. 768ft launch /8:33 4. 699ft launch /8:57 5. 660ft launch /3:36* 6. 702ft launch /4:18* (* F3B runs) ...so max launch ht= 768ft. Coming off bungee with tension still on rubber, so dive and zoom added some height. This was using my extra heavy duty bungee. The beauty with the RAM3 is that because it is self-contained, one unit could be shared by a few at the field, then one downloads the data and that file can be e-mailed to all flyers, who can analyse their flights on their own computer using the free software.

Unreal Mike. Sorry I didn't join you today. Had a great arvo of sloping.
768 feet does seem like a very decent launch height ... that's a great little bit of gear. Next you should get one of those vario things that makes sounds indicating the climb/ sink rate!

Had a late fly at BR this arvo in low cloud, cooling seabreeze and a few spots of rain...so no great times. The Escape launched between 650-700ft each time and flights between 5-7min...quite good I feel considering the conditions. This plane doesn't launch as high as the Pike, but is so easy to fly.

A quick fly at BR this morning after watching Garth maiden his Extra xl. Extra was a beautiful plane to watch. Had 3 flights, all launches app 650ft, an 11, 9 and 8min flight. Flew the Pike, just love the look of it in the air. Pretty happy as no real thermals, just a few bubbles. Love bringing my plane home in one piece.

A quick fly at BR after work today for an hour or so. 5-8kts on the ground and quite a bit more up high. Flew the Escape and played a little with launch settings. Not much lift in the cooling afternoon seabreeze. 4 flights- LAUNCH HT (FT)----TIME 767-------------------9:59 668-------------------5:58 722-------------------8:23 715-------------------9:26
... pretty happy with these times and all landings in front of me and, most importantly, IN ONE PIECE. I really love this soaring!

Great Mike. Very interesting to see the figures. It would be good to compare it with winch launches ... can we convince you to come to Harrisville on Sunday and get some comparative numbers??
Thanks for phoning to ask me along and I'm REALLY sorry that I'm turning you down so much. No spare time at the moment.
