I had just finished work and i was abit frustrated with people so i packed my bag and my plane (Modifyed bevo) and my bungee and went down to Sentenary Lakes at Caboolture....its really great because i only live 5-10min walk from the fields......and it is great for a thermal plane.....Now my bevoe ha shad many operations to it and i have done it again....i had really heavy tape on it, so i pulled all of it off and it has made it so much lighter.....It has gone from 1020grams down to i would say about 500-700grams so it has made a big difference ;D
Anyway.....
i was bungeeing it up to just have some fun and bring it around for some catches to show off to the croud a couple of times....but when there wasnt i practiced on my spot landing for the Lismore comp coming up and out of 5 launches i was getting it under 3m every time....i had a plastic bag as a designated landing spot about 5m away from me so i thought that was allright considering this is a flying wing not ment much for slow flight and spot landing ;D
I had seen some pelicans flying around.....There was 3 of them and then they caught a thermal and were going higher and higher, so i just couldnt wait.....got the plane ready and off she was, about 260ft i would say, straight into the thermal and she went up and up and up i thought this was great considing it is not a thermalier and at the end of it i would say i was close to 450ft in the air ;D I was just astounded by how this glider just so much height off of this thermal I would have really liked to see what a real thermalier would be able to do if i had it in the air and not the bevo ;D
At one stage i had around 10 families gathered around to watch me bungee it up...NO PREASURE!!!!!
I also might have gotten a couple of people into sport aswell so we might be having some more flyiers at SC.....Lots of people come and asked me questions and just wanted to touch the plane and stuff like that....It was GREAT
In the end i was out for 4 hours or so and i had cought a couple of thermals here and there I would really like to go down there with Andrew, Jeff and anybody else who has thermal glider or just wants to come down for a fly...there is planty of room for a winch launch i would most likely say so on the footy fields i was gliding on ;D
All up it was a great day and a nice one at that with nothing broken or damaged but dead batteries in the transmitter
Regards,
Chris ;D
