for sign writers vinyl in every colour/grade and also harlequin,3d patterns, metallics, pearlescents and more plus pinstriping and velcro- Graphic Art Mart in Virginia St,Geebung. vinyl is super easy to use, much smoother than tape, looks tops and is pretty hard wearing.goes from anywhere from $5.60/mtr (solid colours) to 40 something for harlequins and 3D patterns.can get away with 3mtrs easily and maybe even 2 if you covered each wing panel in sections. also bidirectional tape at bunnings.....is a 3m product and looks just like clear packaging tape until it is wound off the roll.this stuff is super thin, strong and light.

I saw Felix's bi-di tape (3M brand from Bunnings) and it did look really interesting. The filaments are closer together and look a bit finer .. overall it looked like a lighter but very strong tape. I didn't see it when I looked at Bunnings but Felix reckons when it's in the wrapper it just looks like normal tape. Could be really good. Costs about $7.

That tape sounds like it could be really good.
I have some of the 3M 25mm uni directional tape - it's perfect for taping things onto the outside of foamies (fins etc) because unlike any other strapping tape I've tried it's UV resistant, so doesn't go yellow and crumbly when exposed to the sun.

Hi Sean,
where did you source the 3M tape please?

Hi Ken - Good ol' Bunnings.
BTW I don't like it for taping wings under the covering because it's so narrow - takes forever to apply and more gaps between pieces means bumpier covering.

anyone know someone who supplies pilot figures? just started adding ailerons to my electra and decided to build it into a 30's era scalish glider and would love to have a terrified pilot to throw in the open cockpit.

I have been keeping an eye out for good aerial wire. I went to Jaycar at Aspley and noticed this stuff: It's called "Cable IDC Rainbow", code WM4516. It has 16 strands of fine insulated wires, for only $3 per metre. It looks like the inner multistrand is stainless. I think it's computer wire (like IDE cable). One strand is 0.8mm thick, and my thinnest (Corona) wire is 0.6mm. But this stuff is oval shaped due to the plastic joining each bit, so it would be just over a mm at the widest. Good stuff for pushing into a slit in your foamies. By the way I've mentioned this before but a really way to make joiner plugs for detachable aerials is to slice up standard servo plugs. Cut up a male and a female plug and you get 3 pairs of plugs. Solder them to the wire and shrink wrap them if you like. Really small, really cheap. Makes it quick and easy to swap receivers between planes if necessary, or to patch another aerial on if you're having glitches.

That's an MZK Penta 5 channel, from RC-Sailplane.aus. They're the only ones I reckon I haven't had problems with! I first got a Hyperion, which is a Berg-type and that's the one that trashed the Bat and Reaper for me. But the MZK's have been good. I recently got a Corona and it's certainly glitching more.

There's a new 8 cell Eneloop Tx battery pack at OZ RC Models at Geebung for $50.00. Not sure what plug is on it. I dropped in there today and saw it. I don't need one but that's great value for an Eneloop Tx pack. I think he got it in for someone who didn't take it. Phone 3265 4547 or 0403 394775. He's only open half days as he packs a lot of stuff for Ebay sales. He mostly has RC car stuff but also has lots of servos, cheap batteries, servo extension and Y leads, etc at good prices.

Sean etc, I got a tip today that for polyurethane glue, the one to get is the Selleys (I think) rather than the Vise. Guy I spoke to won't use Vise and reckons the Selleys one is good. Check out this guy for radio gear. I reckon the servos look great (but he's out of stock just now). Is in Townsville I think. pldaniels.com/rcshop/Paul Daniels is actually in Charters Towers. Great bloke in my opinion, and he tries to do things locally which otherwise have to be imported. Have a look at his own-design electronics. I think he has a lost model alarm. I love the look of that charging jack. There would be no need for a switch or plug to turn your receiver off, just leave the charging plug in even if you're not charging. To turn it on ready to fly, unplug. You'd think that should prevent chucking a glider without turning it on first I got my filament tape from Wowings. My 3M 77 was from the local Home Hardware, only place I could find, but over $35! The only coloured packing tape locally is bright orange and says FRAGILE... FRAGILE... FRAGILE... Someone told me I should be able to also find C.O.D... C.O.D... Imaging flying a glider called the Fragile Cod?

I love the look of that charging jack. You'd think that should prevent chucking a glider without turning it on first You'd think so wouldn't you, but I've thrown off with jack still inserted, & on more than one occasion. I now have a piece of fluoro surveyors tape attached to each of my male plugs, also helps me find them if I drop them on the ground. ;D
