Man, if the wind does eventuate like that, I might not be able to make it anyway ... I could still be up at Bald Knob picking up the bits of my Reaper strewn across the backside of the Camel Hump ... but smiling ....

Its not looking good from here, but if you fellows come up with a plan B that most folks agree too I could still make the effort. I will go by your advice, having been in the maritime trade and into astronomy i well understand the way the weather can make a mockery of our plans.
Andrew thats really awful news, sorry to hear it. Hope its not as bad as it sounds.
EDIT; DOH!! - dont take things literally....

What about one of the nearby Fish and Chip shops? Only thing is we might need some numbers in advance.

How's this for a plan b - raincoats, goggles and plastic bags for our transmitters.

We had dinner at one of the F&C joints yesterday. I'm pretty confident we could get in there... even without pre-booking, because if it's raining people stay away in droves.

I think at this stage it might be best to delay it for a week. It would be ideal to have a ejoyable fly and dinner without getting blown away or drenched. With only a few days out it's not looking like the conditions are going to tame down at all. We could go for F&C this weekend but 35knts SSE winds & increasing showers doesn't make it sound appealing. To be honest I think we're better off waiting 1 week and hoping that next Sunday will produce a classic Shorncliffe afternoon and opportunity to share a good feed afterwards, we want it to be enjoyable not unpleasant . We will just need to rename it the 'New year fly & dinner' . By the way, I've got my glow sticks. Can't wait to give it a test run.

Sounds ok to me, my cabin at Clontarf should still be available next weekend, or another weekend if need be. Its a good time for building, should have bought a Bat this week.

My wife was listening to the radio before and there was someone on from BOM and apparently they are predicting Sunday will be a very very wild day. Apparently he used the words "dam filling rain" We sure do need it. It sounds as though the chances of us having a good event are pretty slim so I'm all for a weeks delay. Thoughts?

I think a postponement is a good idea. A shame, but probably for the best.

For anyone living in a hole.... Synoptic Situation: An elongated tropical low with a central pressure of 1000hPa is developing in the Coral Sea and is currently located 500 km northeast of Gladstone. The low is expected to intensify, become more circular and move towards the southeast to be located about 500km east northeast of Gladstone at 10am Saturday. The low is then expected to continue to intensify on Saturday and become slow moving and is likely to move back towards Fraser Island during Sunday.
Very large waves are expected to be generated by this system and will affect areas between Heron Island and Cape Moreton on Saturday and extend down to Coolangatta/Tweed Heads by Sunday. Gale force winds and waves will cause abnormally high tides which should exceed the highest tides of the year with some waves likely to extend up above the beach zone particularly on the east coast of Fraser Island on Sunday. Winds are expected to increase during Sunday when wind gusts may reach 90 km/hour on islands and in exposed coastal areas between Sandy Cape and Cape Moreton.
The State Emergency Service advises that people in the affected area should, if near the coastline, stay well away from the water's edge.
I like the bit about staying away from the waters edge

Yep, i wont be out diving this weekend.... strewth i was nearly blown off my bike this afternoon! Its funny but whenever the surface weather gets lively between Rocky and Brissy the jetstream finally gets quiet overhead, always associated with cloud to; weather.wvec.com/auto/wvec/global/Region/AU/2xJetStream.htmlI dont know about anyone else but I've almost forgotten what the night sky looks like!

Hi folks, its shaping up to be another very weird weather weekend by the looks. Clearing maybe, but with ghostly northerely breezes for Moreton bay if the charts are to be believed. I really want to come down, and i will even if its showery, but i'm praying for wind due to a lack of local weather knowledge.

Steve... it's really not looking good. I reckon it might be even worth postponing again if it looks really bad.
